Besides CT and others like them Is there any retail outlet in Vancouver area where you can go and look at the products. I am interested in buying top quality pellets but would like to have a look at them and not purchase on line.Seem Specialty Shooting and D&L are online only

What do you want to see? I found that I can't tell much by looking at pellets. I have Crossman pointed hunting, crossman premier, and Beeman Crow Magnum on hand. The Beeman are standout sharper casting but they keyhole at 20yds. The premier cut tiny holes and kill rats easily(.22 @ 450fps) and the crossman hunting just aren't that accurate. All of which can only be determined by shooting.

I feel you though, I loved it when Specialty had their store in Langley.

Unless you are shooting 10 meter competition, JSB Exact and H&N Field Target Trophy are invariably the best pellets to first try. They are round head pellets, which have a deserved reputation for accuracy and are available in different head sizes.

This. Save yourself a lot of frustration and get some known quality ammo. I have not a single airgun that doesn't do exceedingly well with either pellets mentioned above.

I am old school I like to touch what I buy and a few brands in front of me to see which I prefer. I want good ones H&N, JSB etc but can't find a retail outlet that carries the really good stuff. I need .22 cal. The best I could do was the Benjamin variety pack but nothing else

Fact of the matter is that you won't find premium quality pellets on store shelves in Canada or the USA either. The exception being SOME Princess Auto outlets selling JSB .177 cal. Just the way it is, we all have to order.

And, as most of the tins have a seal of some kind, you probably won't be able to open them before buying.

Yep, I've looked all over Vancouver and the GVRD. Only Princess Auto sells JSBs in .177, and it's pretty rare to see them in stock. I can tell you that in .22 cal, I pretty much ONLY shoot 18.1gr JSB Jumbo Exact Heavy. I have about 15 tins of them right now. As others have mentioned, you won't be able to open a tin of pellets before you buy them, in my experience. That being said, you don't need to see these. They are simply the best pellets in every way. Not every airgun likes them, but they sure do well in almost every one I've seen.

Reliable Gun does stock some RWS pellets, though. They are pretty decent. What kind of gun are you using?

I bought a couple of different styles from an online air gun dealer in Gatineau, can't remember the name think it was through eBay.
I can look tonight which ones I liked but what I did was... Setup various targets at 20 meters. Went back and forth between the different styles and choose the one that gave the the best results. In my case they were the wad cutter (H&N sport, .177?). What I noticed is the wad cutter made contact in the rifling all the way around giving a more stable flight. The pointed pellets seem to only have rifling marks part way around the top of the pellet and the skirt. So it was like they were coming out a little skewed so the groupings suffered. Once I found the ones I liked I bought 5 tins to stock up and just fratted around plinking with no expectations for the ones that didn't cut it. Used the preferred ones for more skillful shooting.

Just like looking for .22 ammo you have to try a variety to find the one you particular firearm likes.

Thanks guys. I picked up a benjamin discovery "ultimate hunting pellet assortment" in .22 at Cabelas.Though nothing on the box tells me how heavy they are, the feeling is they are 14.3 gr. There is 400 in the pack so my Venom should be well broken in by the end then I'll take the plunge for a good name brand

You probably got them from ciblescanadatargets in Gatineau. He has a huge inventory and sells "samplers" and is great to deal with

Perhaps there is a vendor at a local gun show that will have some you can look at. At one of our local shows there is a fella that carries a lot of pellet gun related stuff.

^^^ Good observation on the wad cutters I've been using them exclusively in my two rifles and they seem more accurate then most ammo, just need to find a regular supply

Wad cutters are designed so as to achieve their maximum accuracy for use in 10 meter match shooting, and they loose accuracy at distances beyond 20 or so meters. Wad cutter pellets are used in competition shooting because, unlike round head pellets, they punch a cleaner round hole in the target that is easier to score. Round nose pellets are just as accurate at closer distances and are much more accurate at long distances. Good quality wad cutter pellets are also made by JSB and H&N, and like the round head pellets made by those manufacturers are available in different head sizes, even smaller than 4.50 i.e. 4.49 and 4.48mm.

Very true. I use RWS Meisterkugeln pellets for short range, and for knocking out rats. They're great to maybe 20 yards, then H&N FTTs (round nose) take over from there with one of my guns. My go-to Hammerli Pneuma, though, just wants nothing but JSB 18.1gr round nose. Makes a small single hole at 20 yards, and 1/2" groups at 50! Rabbits at 50 yards are practically a gimme.
