I was reading the thread about what bullet we used for our first kill and it reminded me of a story I posted on another site. This was in the summer of '08
Fridays I usually finish work around noon and today was no exception the only difference was that the kids were spending the day at 6 Flags in Montreal, my wife had a happy hour with her work. Therefore I had a whole afternoon to myself. Of course I went out for groundhogs!
Well I shot this first hog at about 100 yards.
the shot was straight on and so I aimed for the chest. This is the entry wound there was no exit wound.
As I was setting up the picture I felt a lump on its back. By the shape I could tell it was what was left of the bullet.
The lump was here
Well it's not often that you can retrieve a bullet from a varmint so I just had to cut it out
And here it is!
I then decided to do a little walkabout and spotted a nice sized hog in a corn field. The only wierd thing is that he was standing up on all fours just like a dog or a cat. Usually they hug the ground tight or they will sit up on their hind legs to get a better view of their surroundings. It was the first time I saw this type of posture. It was quite a ways out so I moved in a little closer. At about 250 yards I decided to take the shot before I would spook it. It was still standing there like before complete broadside.....
The shot went through the neck at the base of the skull. I put a piece of straw through to show the path it took.
All in all it was a great afternoon. I saw many deer and quite a few hawks. The weather wasn't too bad and I'm hoping to get out there again this weekend.
