A few of my Vietnam era clone builds - original parts other than receivers.
Top: USMC M870 Mk.1; Bottom: US Navy/US Air Force M870 Riot Gun, with Adaptor.
Been wanting to build a MK1 for quite some time. Jealous. The bayonet adaptors seem to be easier to find the 21" mod choke barrel and plain wood fore arm.
"BeaverMeat" ... The last, real 21" USMC factory barrel I saw, was on eBay in 2006 - went for an outrageous $250.00USD!!
However, any 1970's-80's era plain, 28" bird barrel, with stamped "MOD" choke, and bead sight mounted directly on muzzle end of barrel, and cut to 21.1" will work for a Mk.1 repro/clone. Factory Barrel markings are identical to USMC barrels.
Early Remington "elevator" adjustable Rear Sight then needs to be silver soldered to barrel.
Of course you need the 2-piece Remington Bayonet Adaptor - not the earlier 1-piece, which are a bit more commonly found on sites like eBay and Gunbroker.

How have you been able to score all these? You make the trip Stateside, or ship in? I've only seen one up here, and it came with a free 870. Needless to say, the price was steep.

In fact, prior to WWI, the U.S. Army briefly entertained the Winchester 1887/1901 lever action shotguns as candidates for riot and trench guns. However, by 1905, the Winchester 1897 pump action shotgun had pretty well become "the" riot gun to have.
Built on a Norinco 1887, this is what an 1887 "Trench Gun" may have looked like if it had ever been produced. The 1887 Magazine Plug Stud aligns perfectly with the stud securing hole in the back of the Winchester 97 Heat Shield/Bayonet Lug.
