Can a pellet gun barrel (.177) be cut, threaded and chambered to 17 Mach 2 if it is thick enough and of suitable quality? The hypothetical project would be a XP-100 style pistol made out of an old single shot Anschutz or Cooey action with a barrel from an old pellet gun. Any thoughts?

um.. i think you read my mind , i was playing with some thing like that last 3nights.. cooey action (39) , old .17 bbgun barrel. and old paint ball gun frame.
but i wanted to make it .17 hmr

The .17 cal firearm barrel is .172" dia, the airgun barrel will be somewhere near .177".

It'd work, but well enough to be worth the effort, probably not.

No idea what the steel used for an airgun barrel would be, but I have my doubts that they are looking at anything other than machinability when they choose it, to cut costs on the production front.

Short answer. No.

Build a last ditch zombipocalypse tool, probably.

Cheers
