Review and Range Test of PGW's .338LM SWS the Timberwolf

Wow. my new to me, but previously loved T-Wolf arrived today. What an impressive kit. PGW makes an amazing product. I haven't had long to spend with it, but the fit and finish is out of this world. Hopefully get the the range for a paltry 250m tomorrow. Threw on another scope to check out weight/balance. The NF 5-25x56mmATACR that I have for it should arrive next week.

Here are a few quick pics. I have to get better ones when the scope arrives. I was just so excited I thought I would take a couple.

Thanks Vik for the new rifle!!!!!

Fantastic rifle, Tomochan! Just out of curiosity, you had mentioned that the TRG 42 was a consideration. I'm wondering if you considered the TRG M10 as well? If so, what were your thoughts?

TRG M10 is not even in the same ballpark price wise. $13000cad or there abouts for the M10 bare rifle. Scary part is I was actually considering it.....

Well I got a quick few rounds down range today. This is my first time shooting the T-wolf. I am very impressed, it is like shooting a 308 - really. I could shoot this gun all day long. I am still waiting for my reloading components to arrive so I painfully picked up a box of Remington Express 338 Lapua Magnum with 250gr Scenars on top of Lapua Brass. At least I can re-use the good brass. But at that price....thank god I am realoding.

Weather was -4*C and almost no breeze.

I didn't shoot a ton but shot two groups. Best was 0.739 MOA....and it could've been SO much better. It started off with 4 shots in 1 ragged hole (OnTarget had it at 0.242 MOA) and then I got over excited and blew the last hole. I realized it basically as soon as I had squeezed the trigger. Darn!!! The other group was a 0.755 MOA - not the best shooting by me on the other group. Hopefully my reloading equipment arrives this week. I wanna get out again...I would love to not buy another box of ammo - HAHA. Avg was 2855 fps.

A bit of a messy setup...but you get the idea.

The best group.

Update: new scope arrived. Can't wait to try again!!!

Program is OnTarget Precision Calculator. Super awesome and easy to use. Just take a pic of your target, I hold up a measuring tape on the target and take a picture. Then you calibrate the picture based on the tape, add your point of aim, add your holes and done.

I bought Premier Reticle Tactical 5-25x scope from pgwdti and dealt with Ross. Had a small little problem with it after about a year, Ross arranged for a quick repair. They are great company to deal with.

PGW's are some of my absolute favourite rifles! The very first tactical precision rifle I have shot was a friends PGW Coyote, and I have been in love ever since...

My only complaint, which is a very minor one, has to do with the aesthetics of the chassis. I just can't stand the polymer grip that they choose to use with their chassis system. It looks out of place on a $5k+ rifle, and the grip was clearly not designed to be used at that angle. I'm probably alone on this, but it does bugs me.

I still wouldn't let that from preventing me from getting a PGW though, I would probably get it with the A5 stock, which all of my precision rifles have anyways. If I was looking at getting a .338, the PGW would be on the very, very short list of rifles that I would consider.

The grips are standard AR grips, so you can change to anyone you desire. The grip angle is steeper, the grip block that the grip attaches to was designed to place the front strap of the grip at the same angle as the McMillan A series stocks. This was a request from some SF snipers after the first batch had the conventional grip angle of the AR rifles. I've always respected the requests of guys who use our stuff in the field. ;-)
