Review and Test - Two Fake Leupold Mk4's. Junk or Not ?

So I ended up buying another Chinese scope fixed power 4X32 from Fitco in BC for a .22 bolt action I had. I want the M1 scope clone for my 10/22 clone.

Funny thing this scope looked exactly like scopes costing 2 or 3 times at the gunstores????

Oh well it was only 42.00 shipped. :)

f:P:

So what? The other Fitco scopes I bought worked just fine, it's not like this is a .50 cal....

Is it better I buy a Chinese scope from CT for 69.00-99.00 that is the same, maybe I should just start spending 1400.00 on scopes for my .22s...............

Sorry for sharing.

You can do what you like.

It seems like the guys who say "I can't afford to buy a nicer scope" are the same guys who order piles of scopes from Chinaland. (may not be your case)

But yes a $1400 scope like a Sightron SIII would make a great scope for a .22LR.

Yes exercising free choice and being honest.

Oh and a few American and German made firearms of course, as I like comparing items side by side it's the only way to really learn how to be objective. Seems not being able to do this makes one somewhat ill informed I have found.

I must say my shooting buddys Nightforce and American made fixed 10 power Leupold are sure nice pieces but I would expect that for the cost of course.

Do you need to eat rotten week old meat to know it tastes bad, or would you just take someone's word for it? There is almost nothing from China that is of quality(that we see). Anything that is a knockoff, blatant wannabe copy is 100% pure junk. It's not like this is something new, there have been counterfeits and fakes since the inception of the originals they're trying to imitate. Purchasing a low end Bushnell or Tasco is at the very least not a thumbs up to counterfeit companies preying on those who don't know the difference. More importantly, you may get some form of customer support from known brands like Bushnell or Tasco. I'll end this by saying that in general, the only ones interested in a fake/copy are those trying to pass it off as the real deal, and often to those who know the difference. Save yourself the disappointment, the money and the ridicule and stop buying cheap fake junk.

Had a Sightron S3 on my CZ455, worked great but definitely overkill with the CZ having airsoft like recoil. Changed to a cheap NC Star, shoots the same at 100m.

Why not save a buck putting airsoft quality on 22lr. On a M14 recoil is a total different matter.

It depends what your doing I guess. If you want to plink then a cheap scope will work. If you want to use a 22 for target shooting then you can't cheap out.

Agree completely!

The money I saved on glass for my low recoil rifle needs allowed me to buy a Ruger 22/45 pistol (yes it's the real thing) for my son and I to shoot. Bought a RIA 10/22 clone for my son as I already have Ruger 10/22 (yes it's the real thing).

Looked at the Chinese M4 clones but hey my American AR (yes it's the real thing) works just fine. Was looking at a Norinco CZ clone but my AnschĂĽtz (yes it's the real thing) works just fine as well.

I did sell my Remington 870 combo (was the real thing) after using my Chinese 12.5" Grizzly (better than the real thing) for a couple of years as the Chinese clone seems just as good in the bush and handles better.

My choice buying a Savage bolt over a Chinese .223 was because it was a better choice for me and the price delta was minimal.

Get the picture here? Yes I actually am able to compare things and am not drinking the Koolaid in buying the best stuff unless I need to....

Ridicule, I really don't care as I am sharing whats works for me and maybe other shooters on a budget like I am.

Love the Chinese quality comment, do you have an Apple product..........................................................

Agree with 99% of what you say - except for the bit about buying a Savage :)

OK, Savagefanboys stand down - I actually own that brand also.

Came down to a Mossberg, 700, Vanguard, and the Hog Hunter in .223.

Love the Accutrigger, stiffened up the stock, shoots great. :) Couldn't justify 1000.00 for a truck gun only used on gophers. :) And the money I saved buying the Savage allowed to to buy a couple of clone scopes, a clone 10/22, and some other goodies. :)

Funny never had to stretch my dollar until I had kids. :(

It appears that like most, you're more interested in having many low end items(knockoffs to boot) as opposed to a few high end items. It also appears that you are far more concerned with looks and/or image than performance. To each their own, but don't pretend like cheap knockoff junk is anywhere near the same quality as the real deal. It may work, it may only last a few rounds, its a gamble many of us aren't willing to take. I enjoy using equipment that works without question.

I assume you don't know the person about whom you made the above comment. I also have fun with cheap low end products and, sometimes, seeing how some knock off stuff compares to the real deal. Awaiting your assessment :)

Yeah thats why I have used it for over a year now before buying more.

Looks?? When did I say that exactly or is this an assumption?

I was pretty clear I wanted a sub 100.00 scope scope for .22 and .223 plinking with turrets and Mildots never said a "L" was a requirement in fact my newest scope has no "L" so guess it was not important as I purposely sourced it like that.

Wouldn't consider my Anschutz, AR, or 22/45 to be low end either, maybe my AR-7, just my plinking scopes are low end but we know that.

Don't recall ever saying the clones were anywhere close to scopes costing 10 times as much either, seems a few wrong statements are being made don't really know why, when the posts confirm the facts.

Well knockoffs are never as good as the original/real deal, its why they're called knockoffs. If comparing cheap junk to the real deal is what you consider fun, then drive on.

When people refer to knockoffs by the name/make/model in which they are trying to imitate, it is because they want others to see and or believe they have the real deal. There are plenty of cheap Chinese mildot scopes with TARGET turrets(as all scopes have turrets)for sub $100 and many aren't trying to be passed off as a genuine known brand. Personally, I think Leupold is an over priced mediocre brand, save for their MK6 and MK8 lines, which are great but still over priced, but I digress. One would have to be of very low IQ to believe that any knockoff is anywhere near the quality of the real deal. You did not say such a thing, and I am not proposing you did. What I am saying, is that even though your copy has lasted for the past year, it does not mean it has the quality or merits of a properly built and functional optic, of which it is marketed as. There are optic choices available for far less than the real Leupold models these knockoffs are trying to imitate. Many of which are of far superior quality to these no name knockoffs.

As I stated above for Tomochan, if you enjoy using questionable gear for "plinking" then by all means have at it. I posted previously that some of us are more concerned with performance and the pursuit of improving it. Neither of which benefit from low quality equipment. Even the serious "plinker" appreciates equipment that works properly.

It would appear that these Fake scopes have increased in value - saw one on the EE just now.

WOW! I thought it was a running joke when guys talk about doubling prices on used items on ee. Now i have seen it for real. Just....wow.

On a more serious note. it makes threads like these all the more important. Hopefully people who are interested will do their due diligence and research.
