Review and video of Kel-Tec KSG - New video added

They will always be the workhorse dependable and indestructible. I'll always have a place in my life for one, but sticking with the times and better technology is more fun.

Hey great video,thank you.
The,question is how much did you pay for it and do you think it worth the money?

I see it as a slug shotgun only,at this distance its usless unless you shooting slugs which are $1 per round. Also I agree its cool looking gun, before this video I wanted one . Now knowing its over $1000 slug shotgun I dont think I will go for it. Will still stick to my Benelli. Use of only 2 3/4 shells ,then without choke its like a toy to shoot in gun range on Friday night, show of time.

Its just my opinion but it look uncomfortable and kicks hard. Then action doesnt look that smoth.
I cant believe I even say that when KSG was on my #1 to buy list.
Seriously ,after all this is a tactical shotgun 10yrd use ,I think I can be fine with regular 8 round gun which you can use not just to show of or waste money on only shooting slugs.
If the crooks made it fare $600 price as its in states I wouldnt hesitate now I dont see the rush.

Just my opinion and Ill repeat I was going to buy it ,not anymore ;)

Mercury: Great review, good catch and instruction on not short stroking it (can see that causing probs for people unfamiliar with pump action shotguns).

Redline: Understand your point, Beretta Urika II is the same money and several orders of magnitude ahead in term of materials, fit & finish - with KSG are paying for the design rather than quality / refinement.

However, until handle a KSG it is difficult to get impression of balance and how short it is - short enough to shoot your own hand, how cool is that?

Similarly find it difficult to define a use for it - in terms of camp gun / truck gun the 500, 870, Defender... will solve the same problem (and in Mariner version for a lot less $). Sure, these do not carry 14 or so shells but how many problems provide the opportunity for a solution that involves >5 shells? It is convenient to carry a lot of ammo in the magazines but a side saddle or pocket will easily do the same (and without the need to empty a mag if carrying an assortment of ammo - slugs, shot, banger, flare...).

Regardless, with a Mepro M21 it makes me smile. If a year or so from now it no longer does so then will likely bring a smile to the next owner with little monetary loss (but think that unlikely, its a big smile). Recoil comes pretty much straight back (similar to RFB) and is similar to the heavier Mossberg 500, the switch over is not overly ergonomic, and will take practice to get good at loading it while shouldered (shoot 1, load 1...) but more than happy to do so.

Hey Redline,
I paid $999.99 + 12%HST for a total of $1119.99. The KSG is going to be primarily my 3-gun shotgun. I think it will fit that roll perfectly. 15rds of 2 3/4" is awesome. There is also a guy on the KTOG forums that has put 17rds of 2" into the KSG and it worked. Pretty cool.

Now that I've shot it, I'm thinking that this shotgun would be excellent for hunting grouse. Kel-Tec makes a choke adapter for it so I'll definitely be getting one. Walking through the bush with the KSG would be super easy. It's short and maneuverable, and it balances very well so it's very easy to carry. Loading up one tube with bird shot for hunting and the other with slugs for protection, is the best of both worlds in one gun.

So far, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. To me the cost is absolutely worth it. A shotgun that can do it all... and make a liberal wet his bed is a bargain at twice the price.:D

Understand I know nothing of hunting, but doesn't the short barrel limit you for that application? I'm hoping I'm wrong, cause that would be awesomely short and light for flying around the Bush with.

I've got to get one of these.

Question to all of you KSG owners. How does it compare to that other crazy shotgun that Tactical Imports sells? It looks heavier and bulkier, but it seems to run in the same race, so to speak.

I've been shooting the damn thing and I keep forgetting how long the barrel is. The gun feels so small and compact, it's amazing.

The really great thing about it is how fast it is to point. I can sight one target, then spin and acquire the next target incredibly quickly.

Got some more video of the KSG in action. Plus a couple of other bullpups. There's been about 300rds through the KSG now and not one single failure so far. Krystal was shooting today and didn't have any failures at all. And you know how often girls get jams with shotguns because they don't rack it properly. Well, Krystal didn't have any trouble at all.
