I just received my Khan A-TAC Tactical pump shotgun from Trade Ex and wanted to do a brief review...

Before ordering, I tried to do my standard InterNet-based searches to find out more about Khan and the A-TAC Tactical pump model in particular, but it was slim pickin's. The only mention of the the model I was interested in was on a couple of Russian sites and details were skimpy.

Anthony at Trade Ex had answered all of my annoying questions in a friendly and timely manner, so I decided to take a chance on it and... I AM SURE GLAD I DID! :)

Here are some of the details:

- 7+1 capacity
- 20" barrel
- Threaded for chokes!
- Comes with a Cylinder choke, a faux carbon fiber choke case, and a nifty little choke wrench
- Receiver is dovetailed (11mm) for optics
- Post type front sight
- Spring assist for action (more about this below)
- Sling swivels
- Made in Turkey
- $269! :)

I had owned a Stevens 350 previously and although it was a decent shotgun for about the same price, its trigger was HORRIBLE and it did not have an extended magazine. Plus, I wasn't a big fan of the Ithaca 37 style of receiver.

My first impression of the Khan A-TAC was that the fit and finish were excellent (e.g. it has a nice machined follower). I worked the action and realized that there was a spring surrounding the magazine tube that required more effort to pull the action back, but assisted you going forward. I didn't really see the benefit of this and thought it might actually be more irritating than beneficial, so I quickly removed the barrel and found that the action spring was easily removed. The action seems really smooth and the fore-end grip is very comfortable. The tigger is very crisp and the pull seems quite light.

Next it was time to see if the magazine was plugged... Yup! With no info in the manual about how to remove it, and no help from the InterNet, I was starting to worry that I might be stuck with a low-capacity shotgun. However, the fix was easy! After examining the front of the magazine, I realized there was a small steel clip that was retaining the magazine plug. I pushed in the magazine spring, twisted the clip and it popped out. Then you just yank out the magazine plug. No need to replace the clip as far as I can see as the magazine spring has a permanent retainer.

The front post site is decent, but I'll probably try and track down a bit of day-glow paint or nail polish to brighten it up a bit. The dovetail is a nice touch as their are plenty of inexpensive dovetail-to-picatinny adapters on eBay to make adding optics a cinch.

I haven't had it out the the range yet, but overall I am VERY happy with my purchase! Let me know if you have any questions and I'd be glad to try and answer them.

Pros:
----
- Price
- Excellent fit and finish
- Barrel threaded for chokes
- Smooth action
- Great trigger
- Comfortable butt pad and fore-end
- Receiver is dovetailed

Cons:
----
- Not much for aftermarket parts availability
- Magazine tube not easily removed/accessed (somewhat like a Mossberg 500)

Old thread I know but I just ordered the 14" barrelled one from Tradeex. Can't wait! I t seems that these are basically Mossbergs since Khan makes several models for Mossberg. Collapsing stock AND pistol grip which, if my google-fu is accurate, gives an OAL of 26.5".......WOOHOO! Hope they supply an FRT reference with every sale!!!!!

I really like that full length hand guard. Finally something to fill that damn gap that most pump shotguns seem to have.
Oh ya, almost a year old....

Yep the thread is older but Tradeex JUST got the 14" a-tac tactical in the last few days I think. $295 for basically a Mossberg. Let the haters wag their jaws, it can't be worse than those Norinco Homeland security things that SFRC was trying to give away with a disclaimer in the end! Khan actually builds shotguns for CZ too, among others.

If you fashioned silly-putty into the shape of a shotgun it would be hands-down better than the Norc "Homeland Security" pump shotguns are.

The Khan looks pretty nice overall.
