I have seen a few guys asking about spotting scopes, thought I would show my appreciation for my Kowa TSN-664 20-60x66. Before I bought this scope I owned a Vortex Viper 20-60x80 (before it was stolen from my truck). IMHO, optically, the Kowa is so far past the Viper there is no comparison, the detail and clarity with this scope is very impressive for a 1600$ (about) scope. It is also very light weight, with 20-60 eye piece it is aprox 2.75 lbs,, pretty good for a 20-60 power! The durability is superb as well, first hunt with this scope while bowhunting I dropped it off my backpack (about 5.5") right onto a rock... it cracked the sunshade that is all. Through dozens of backpack hunts, and summer scouting hanging off my truck window down gravel roads for hours, many scuffs and scrapes are all to show. Warranty is 10 year... no vortex warranty but in my opinion its worth it if you are looking for a reasonably priced, optically superior scope that won't wear you down on a hunt.

I have the Kowa TSN 824 in 20-60x82 Spotting Scope. This instrument can Zoom into and around any Wetland habitat. It is tremendous for viewing hills and deep ravines too. Wow is it clear! But you must have a good stable Tripod because this Scope is quite heavy. You don't carry this unit around like a set of Binoculars thats for sure! The viewing capacity is amazing and details of a Full Moon are something you would see in a National Geographic magazine . The controls are simple and ajustments made easily in the Cold or Wet Environment. The ONLY drawback is that the price is out of range for the average Hunter, but, this Scope displays extra ordinary Clarity and Crispness of view from everything from The Planets, Ships, Birds, Mammals, and Details on Historic Buildings.
But, you might have to save a little of your weekly allowance to buy this scope.
I am so glad I acquired this durable Spotting Scope!
You won't be disappointed.

Ive had owned both the Vortex Razor and the Kowa TSN 883. I needed the quality of the Koaw because I was shooting long range target with a 223 with 90 grain Bergers and once you get past 200 yards it becomes hard to see those tiny holes LOL. After I stopped target shooting with 223 I s\downgraded a bit for something a bit smaller because carrying an 88 mm spotter when hunting takes up way to much room. Both spotters were amazing but the Kowa was a step above the Razor.
 
LOVE my Kowa!! I have the TSN-883 and just upgraded the spotting scope stand to a Giraud. See you one the firing line. :)
 
HOWA/KOWA - Nippon company and glass

Huge in the birding world and ubber popular in the F class world. US Army.. US Marines... not sure which branch but they use the TSN82SV in bucket loads and that is how I came upon them. Great glass, pick up mirage very well and that is their main useage.. see the air. 5 yrs of hard use and still working like new

Great value for sure

Waiting on the upcoming Athlon Cronus tactical spotter. If the glass is anything like the scope, this is going to be a gem. Really cool reticle as well.... should be quite reasonably priced.

Sightron also offers a really nice spotter that hits way above its price point and has a variable that works well... not many in the lower dollars do.

The Kowa ED spotters are some of the best viewing money can buy...
