I was just visiting Epps (www.ellwoodepps.com) on Sat 07 Nov and they have a bunch (20 the staff member said) of the 2009 marked batch of Norinco M14's. :dancingbanana:

Receiver: marked 2009###x just like a Poly M14 report I made a couple of months ago in August.

Parkerizing: A tad lighter than the almost black Poly 2009 series that I own, very even and consistent

Flash suppressor: YES :D A Bayonet Lug is present!! ;) and all of us bayonet lug lovers will be happy. NOT welded either... life is good! :D

Bolt and Bolt Slop: Yes there was the usual bolt slop when the bolt was closed, so nothing new here. Yup, large battle rifle chamber; what a surprise...

Rear sights: METER marked elevation pinion knob! Wowsers! I love it. I played with the sights and just like my Poly sights, they work!! Norinco high school shop teacher/managers got it right! :D The windage knob was cranked 5 MOA left and then right. It's all good to go! It took them many years to get the heat treating right, but finally the rear sights work, Seems to me like PolyTech stepped in at the right time!! And sorted out the rear sight situation. No more having to buy M1 Garand elevation and windage knobs from Egay.

Stock: Hey the PolyTech factory provided these black stocks! No more Chu wood with illegally disposed of PCB laden, WHMIS nightmare, MSDS sheet missing mystery oil!

Front sight: Yup, it's still tall as heck, but you can fix that by gently filing it downwards and sloped forward.

Major parts and components: Stamped serial numbers, not high school grade 9 shop class dremel pencilled in place.

Overall impression: I'm happy that the Norinco managers finally got their shzt together and consulted the PolyTech lovers. They worked together and everything looks great. Now if they could only stop chamber reaming things to 10 thou over the 1.630" SAAMI spec.... Everything looks and quacks like a 2009 PolyTech, but it's stamped, "Norinco"!

I'm hoping fence sitting bayonet loving M14 addicts can now jump on this version... It's sweet!

Peace be to journey! :D

Good review Hungry! Amazing how it took till 2009 to come back to the bayo lug. I guess my older Norc with lug just went down a notch in collector value?

I never understood the lug removal and never heard of someone robbing a bank with a bayonet attached yet on a M-14 or Mauser bolt action. I'm thinking the Americans will envy us more.

Sounds like these rifles just keep getting better. I only wish that the Poly Tech rifles had a bayo lug as well. Makes me wonder why they finally decided to produce the flash suppressors with the lug, and not weld the damn things on.

I'd have to second hungry's review. On the bench right now I have a pile of the new poly's a few of the norc 2007 's and one of the new bayonet lugged versions just showed up this morning and also one of the older norincos with the flat side and a few other neat machining features  . All in for accurizing and some for shorty barrels and bolt /barrel swaps. It's cool to see them all together with the progression of the manufacturing tolerances over the decades they have been "trying to get it right" over there in China.

I don't know about the rifles Hungry just inspected BUT so far the range of headspace on the new rifles coming in over the past couple months are averaging between 2 thou over 7.62 nato (1.635 + 2 ) up to 6 thou over, with an average in that range of +4thou or 1.639..... not bad, considering average for the norc 2007 was +6 to 9+

even if we are paying more than the 399.00 to 450.00 we have been used to paying, these rifles at 525 average are still a worthy purchase for someone wanting an affordable and fine shooting semi auto.

M14Doctor: Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the Kommunists are improving things bit by bit. Ahhh yesss... if only they could get working on the bolt slop issue and large battle rifle chambers. Speaking of large chambers, about 20 years ago... ALL of the USGI M14's would mic around 14 to 20 thou  No joking... So the chinese M14's are doing relatively well, all things considered.
So should you rush out and buy one... nah, not really unless it's your first M14, then get off your ass and git one so that yer #### don't fall off! :D

Hi guys,

If you had the choice right now to buy one... Which one would you choose between this:

The Poly M305 2009

Or

The Norinco 2009 version

I just want to make sure I choose the best one since I might only buy one of those...

Thanks again
Dave

I think you should buy both :D

I bought a new Norinco from Epps in early December. It's a 2009 Nork with the black polymer stock and bayonet lug. The one time I get to pick my serial number and I get a lemon.

Almost everything major needed replacing. The stripper clip guide is too wide, so it won't hold stripper clips; the oprod guide was loose and the groove in the barrel deeper, so the hole in the guided needed to be drilled bigger with a larger pin used; The oprod's fit to the receiver is just sloppy; Worst of all, the trigger and bolt had to be replaced because the sear wouldn't catch the hammer with the trigger depressed.

At least the barrel is indexed properly and it has a bayonet lug.

Anyone else find these problems in the batch, or am I the only lucky contestant?
