Purchased these back in February when they were on sale, but had not really had a chance to put them to the test.
I was a bit concerned why they were selling them at such a good price - wondering if they were not very good

However I was moose hunting north of North Bay during a week of rain, tramping through a lot of heavy brush and doing a lot of glassing.
So here is my report - IMHO
I was very impressed with these Bino's - they performed much better then I had expected.
The clarity and contrast is excellent - it was very easy to see deer in the brown grass etc where they normally can blend in
Focus was very smooth and the amount of eye relief made them easy to use while wearing glasses.
Im fairly hard on my equipment when hunting so these got banged around a lot but the rubberized coating kept them from showing any marks.
Even with all the rain I never had any fogging problems
Overall for hunting in Ontario - I cant imagine needing anything better then these. If I was hunting where you do a lot of very long range glassing I might need to step up but that would require a trip of of Ontario.
I also compared them by looking my rifle scope - a Swarovski Z5 which has fairly very nice glass - and even then they were still very good.

So overall - I would not hesitate to purchase another set or recommend them

I have tried different Optics most of them fell apart from being carried on my Four Wheeler.Four years ago I finally bought a pair of Steiner Merlins 10x40 guaranteed for ten years optics are so clear and they held to abuse on the trails.I guess you have to pay to get good optics.Good Luck with yours.

You wil get what you paid for.
I used to have old (70'?) Steiner 8x30 "military" binos and new (early 2000') 8x30 Predator and both were a big disapointment to say it mildly. I have no idea how good the new ones are but judging them by the past performance I am not about to give them another chance.
Comparing them favorably to Svaroski's is a big LOL.

Glad to hear the good review as I bought the same ones a few weeks ago as Steiner must be bringing out some new lines and everything is offered at half price. Although I have limited use with them, comparing them side by side with a pair of bushnell 10x42's I am impressed with how bright and clear they are

I have been looking at these Steiner Predator Xtreme binoculars as well.... I found a good deal online where the difference in price between the 8x42 and 10x42 binos is negligible ($10).

What should I be going for the 8x or 10x magnification?

I share this view and saw a pair of Steiner 8x,30 "Hunter" or "Deer Hunter" or some such .. fall apart. The plastic housing just couldnt keep the optics aligned. Also saw a pair of 7x,50 with the fancy compass that were absolute crap optically. They were quite the rage with a number of reservists about a decade ago .. and have all disappeared. Frankly Steiner were the ONLY binoculars over a 100 bucks I have ever seen fail. And the ones witnessed where high $300's plus tax back then. I am very pleased for the guys that have them to hear they have apparently improved - but for my money the little 7x,26 B&L Discoverer. Bushnell Elite or Compact custom or whatever they call it now is the best value for a walking hunter.
