Review: XCR keymod - 2 session, 350 round review - Newb

His two stovepipes seem to be on a low gas setting, so he's not following recommended break-in procedure.

for the guy who said its not a 3k rifle http://www.wanstallsonline.com/tactical-centerfire-rifles/index8.html

its 2800 plus tax out here in bc. 2 stoves in 800 rounds is not good. i had less in my stock sr22r and i took it apart and polished it and fixed it to the point its 100 percent reliable. thats why i said id like to buy an xcr and take it t a professional so it works 100 percent but it would take along time and alot of money and for that price and caliber id go with a springfield socom 16 in 308, a proven track record and pinnacle of reliability and around 2500 wich will be my next purchase :) an acr after that.

First of all (s-l-o-w c-l-a-p)

Clearly the gun sucks in your opinion so I won't fight you on that. Maybe you're right, however I feel it necessary to highlight some of the (drink-induced?) flaws in your arguement:

1)
..for that price and caliber id go with a springfield socom 16 in 308, a proven track record and pinnacle of reliability and around 2500 wich will be my next purchase :) an acr after that.
Ummm...this is a review on the XCR L in 5.56 not the XCR M in 308.

2)

Ummm...this is a review on the XCR L in 5.56 not the XCR M in 308. Here's the appropriate link which shows a price of $2399. It's unfortunate that you live in the tax riddled, union infested British Columbia.

3) It has an adjustable gas system which I was instructed to run at the lowest setting providing reliability. Since I had no concept of 'reliability', 1 stovepipe in the first few hundred rounds didn't seem bad so I kept it on gas setting #1. There are 4 gas settings so I am confident I can get the rifle to run 100% WITHOUT servicing it like you had to do with your rimfire weapon.

I love how everyone is comparing the xcr L to restricted rifles lol. You are comparing apples to oranges here. Us PAL guys have only a handful of choices and expensive ones at that. In that respect the xcr is your best bet unless you go tavor, if you like bullpups. For me i had the su16fx ordered for months, then i woke up and smelled the crap plastic and said fawk it, a G more and ill get the xcr!

Had my xcr out in some brutal snow/ice/rain this weekend. It sucked and I loved every minute of it. That's what's shooting is all about.

Too much talking not enough shooting going on here

like i said in previous post snow the 223 version was 100 cheaper but alot of stores here in van have it for as much s 2600 plus tax thus making it a 3k rifle with taxes, just defending my point. And 2 stoves or doubles in 800 rounds would keep me up at night from a 3 k rifle, thats all. i like the looks , i like the company, i like that its american , but i dont like hows its made and its reliability issues found across the interweb in various videos and reviews. awesome non restricted just needs some work that i dont wana do since id cost me 3k for a semi auto 223 that i could easily have in a mini 14 for 1299, maybe im a cheapskate lol.

Nobody would be forcing you to pay 2-300 dollars over market value for a gun so I guess the 3k rifle thing is on you.

It has an adjustable gas system which I was instructed to run at the lowest setting providing reliability. Since I had no concept of 'reliability', 1 stovepipe in the first few hundred rounds didn't seem bad so I kept it on gas setting #1. I'm told settings 'S' and '1' are for suppressed fire and hot ammunition. There are 3 higher gas settings so I am confident the rifle will run 100% without "work".

I considered a Mini14 as well but there's absolutely no reliability issues with the Mini 14 series of rifles? None?

Your points are lost on me however I am sympathetic with your position. I was in the same place when shopping around.

SnoPac, quick question: What was the brand & size of the mags were you using. And do you think the mags preformed satisfactory. Thanks

I have 5 Questar pistol mags (grey ones ordered a couple months ago) and 1 Elander that came with the rifle. Considering my rookie status as a gun owner I can't really say much. They seem to feed the cartridges just fine. At full capacity they load with a closed bolt. They drop free on mag release. I wish the followers were that bright orange I've seen on other mags.

i dont think xcrs suck, its just a new company working out some bugs . i compared the mini 14 because i rather have a 1200 dollar 223 ftf or eject and fix it for a couple hundred then pay 3k and spend who knows how much to function reliably and still be non res. 2399 plus tax = 2686, ill call it a 2700 dollar rifle not a 3 k one.

Good to know the questar ones run good cause those are the ones i have as well. My xcr should be in my hands this wed!!!!

I just think maybe you are over-questioning the reliability of the new gen rifles. I've stated multiple times now..."It (XCR) has an adjustable gas system which I was instructed to run at the lowest setting providing reliability. Since I had no concept of 'reliability', 1 stovepipe in the first few hundred rounds didn't seem bad so I kept it on gas setting #1. I could have run it on gas setting 4 right out of the gate for 800 rounds. You would have never been the wiser and I'd have a gun that shot with "100% reliability".

I'll do an update when I finish shooting the next 800 rounds.

Congrat Zeuce and Wingshots! I hope you enjoy the rifle as much as I am.

http://www.wanstallsonline.com/robinson-arms-xcr-l-tan-7.62x39.html thats 2500 plus tax around 2800 bucks, out here some places have them for 2599 and 2699 plus tax, thats another 12points tax on top so ya its basically a 3 gran rifle. the 223 version is 100 cheaper, still were in the 3k area . i love the acr, theres a non restriceted version done out with comp barrel and 2 stage trigger for 4k right now and im tempted to get it. im kind of cheap though so i think hmm a 3k rifle better be fn awesome but the xcr just has too many bugs for my liking atm. theres also a restricted acr for 2 k i might buy as well. gtw is a tnp reference to a go to war rifle , pistol, knife, gear, its basically the highest marks for reliability a particular firearm and or gear can get. its given to fireamrs with thousands and thousands of rounds fired with no problems. reliability is number 1 to me, i just cant stand having a firearm double feed, ftf, stove pipe ect. and there is such a thing as a 100 percent reliable firearm, i own 4 of them :) knives well thats just another story i often will spend 400 dollars on some nice japanese steel, but im happy because i know im getting my moneys worth. Job sure who couldnt use a lil more money, but how sure are you that you make more then me, but dont worry i wont make it into a battle of the wallet here, you prob do and ur ##### is prob bigger as well CR5

Well you got one thing right ;)

I have a hard time believing you can run an SR-22 800 rounds without a failure. That's just a Ruger 10/22 with an I wish I could afford a real black rifle stock is it not? That would be 800 rounds without cleaning? My 10/22 get's carboned up and starts jamming long before that. Run a bore snake through it to clean the chamber and it's running fine again though.
Mini-14? No thanks. Reliable? Yes. Worth the money? Not from my experience with the one I had. Brutal accuracy, almost as bad as the SU-16 I was playing with a couple weeks ago.
You want 100% reliable? High end AR, HK, Swiss Arms, etc.
My PWS AR has over 4000 rounds without a failure.

Since you admit to being cheap why don't you just buy used? My ACR cost me $2200 and came with a custom 12 inch barrel and a geissele trigger, I did a NR conversion with a used barrel I picked up for a decent deal and sold the 12 inch barrel and ended up with my non restricted rifle for a$2500. You don't need to pay full retail plus taxes for everything. Used XCR's can be had for $1800 and the support Wolverine is providing is incredible so you don't have to worry about buying someone's junk.

It isn't a wallet competition, it's realizing that if you want to play that's the cost of admission. I don't like it either but there are no other options. I want fun toys so I pay the going rate. That's why I usually buy used. I do the same thing with my cars and motorcycles, buy used and save the taxes and initial deprecation.

Edit,
Forgot to address the gunsmith polish job. You can do it yourself for free, just shoot 1000 rounds through it and all the parts that rub will polish themselves and the rifle will run much smoother. It's also known as break-in.

im guessing cr5 you refer to me saying my sr22r had less failure stock then 2 in 800 as per your xcr, i did run a wet wipe in the chamber every few hundred rounds and a lil oil only because of the nature of rimfire, and probably had a couple in 1000 rounds plus. my sr22r works flawlessly now, its been running great after the polish. i bought 6 cases from eagle hunting and i only have 4 left. ill replace the extractor soon and im well over 10 000 rounds without a jam. in the 22 action rifle match i believe i was the only one without any ftf or any problems at all. i did however run a wet wipe every few hundred rounds and add some oil :) o ya and i stoned the trigger for a 4 poundish pull. awesome little gun, id recommend one to everyone. ive also polished my 870 and glock 21 gen 4, the bushy is so awesome that it doesnt need anything but a lil oil.
