Reviews on BC based business "Bits of Pieces"

I was OK with the slow speed, but bummed when Barry decided to change the plan we had discussed in person and do something else without even talking to me?

Fairly simple job, mounting a rail on a stainless rossi 92 using the rear sight dovetail as one anchor point and then drilling and tapping the barrel forward of that for the front bolt of the rail.
I wanted it forward so I could still comfortably trail carry the gun with my hand around the receiver at the balance point. We discussed it in person and put some tape on the gun where the rail would go and then I asked him to get a section of picatinny rail that was finished in silver to match the stainless, I also left him a Lyman peep sight to mount on the side of the receiver.

Barry opted for a cheap black weaver rail for some reason and then decided to mount it rear of the dovetail by drilling the rear hole through the receiver above the chamber area...... the rail now interferes quite nicely with a typical trail carry hand position.

He got the Lyman mounted well enough but the other thing I had asked him to do was use a picatinny rail with a groove so that the rail would not interfere with the sight line of the peep..... I guess that concept left the shop with the original plan?

He did have the intelligence not to ask for any payment when I picked it up in person and discovered the changes he had gone a head with on his own!

Email address and 2 phone numbers but zero discussion about any necessary or unnecessary changes.
I will say he has a nice shop and seems to be capable of good work but it seemed to me after having my gun for a few months and then me calling him to ask how it was going a few weeks after he said it would be done...... he just banged the job off quickly with what ever parts he found in his shop.

Dlask is in the same area and has what you are looking for and after years of doing business with Joe on dozens of projects, I would highly recommend his company.

Did business once and if i ever have an issue again I'm going right back, great service and a good guy.

Edit/Update: After a year I have gone to him 4 more times for different guns, and yes, turn around time is usually slow 1-3 months depending, I have had times where it was done in a few days. Service is excellent.
Overall he still is my go to Gunsmith

I ordered a gm 18 ss 10/22 bull barrel. Waited two weeks and then called him back to see what was taking so long. Turns out he took my credit card number down wrong and he didn't have my phone number, But after that was sent out promptly. After that ordered an extended mag release and he offered to paint it with KG Gun Kote. He said it was extremely durable and a great product, when I got it it was already chipped and I easily scratched to rest of it off in a couple hours with my finger nail. I would still do business with him though

On month 6 waiting for my smith and wesson model 59 re-barrel... seems to like to give the run around. He does not respond to emails and doesn't seem to be very forthcoming with information while on the telephone. I will NEVER send him any work ever again.

Barry converted my Beretta Storm to non-restricted, with bull barrel, and did a nice job, not an overly long wait, and it shoots lights out to boot.

That's my only experience with Bits of Pieces.

Ordered parts, good guy to deal with, knows his stuff. Suspect that many complaints are from people who get speeding tickets five times a year but still blame the cops.

Dealt with Barry several times, the outcome was always good :)

He does great work, his email returning is a bit hit & miss but he picks up the phone every time.

As for the wait times, gun smiths I've dealt with in Canada are busy.

Good ones even more so.

The waiting is just part of the gun game in Canuk Land sadly.

As a final note, hunting season in Canada is the worst time to get a smith to do work IMO.

They are usually swamped.

Slower....than.........molasses......................in..............................January.

And I am a patient man who has dealt with a variety of reputable 'smiths and custom riflemakers here in Canada as well as the US.

took just shy of 1 year to get my smith and wesson model 59 rebarreled

:( I have been waiting since october for my smith 59 , I am waiting for the registration slip with the longer barrel and if I understood Barry correctly he will complete the work afterwards.....How long did it take for you to recieve your registration slip

The only direct dealings I've had with Barry was to purchase some pistol magazines and he replaced a pistol barrel for me but that was some time ago. He told me it would be about a month turn around time for the pistol so I was surprised when he call me a few days later and told me the barrel swap was done.

There is a chronic shortage of trained professional gunsmiths in Canada so its understandable that wait times can be long no matter whom you deal with. Especially true for one man shops. There are only some many hours in the day and if your 'smith is answering the phone, emails, eating, sleeping, sick, day off, family, etc, he ain't working on your gun at the same time.
