What kind of competition? And what is the problem you are trying to solve?
Are factory grips too small or too big for your hands?
Some people use Hogue's, some use the new style S&W grips. I use the old Uncle Mike's.
I don't recommend Pachmayr's because of the steel insert and that makes the gun too heavy.
What revolver are you shooting?
A 686 I got to try in IDPA
That's what my wife and I use, both with the Uncle Mike's.
I used Pach's when I shot PPC but my 4" 686 was overweight with them for IDPA.
Did you swap the factory grips for competition style grips?
I only use the Miculek grips. They let me grip the gun high and reload with speedloaders or moonclips with either hand. Because they are smooth it is easy to alter your grip if you miss it slightly on the draw. Best part.....no finger grooves!!! Grips with finger grooves force you to take a predetermined grip which may not be optimal. I have never found a set of groved grip that allowed me to grip the gun as high as I need to.
John
but I did not know about the finger grooves being a potential hindrance.
