Usually I clean my .44mag always after each range trip, but I never disassembled it… After what round count would it be a good idea to take it apart for cleaning?
What make/model is it, and how long have you had it? Most revolvers are never going to get dirty enough that they'll need to be disassembled for cleaning, unless you drag it through a swamp or similar.
I really dont see the need unless you feel a change in the performance such as the cylinder lagging. I noticed it on the RBull when using cast bullets after a few hundred . All else was fine but some of the residue built up a bit and made the DA very difficult. Other than that, not a problem. FYI, if you do decide to do a disassemble, be very careful not to lose the little plunger/spring assembly at the end of the cylinder crane . Keep the muzzle pointed down when removing the cylinder asembly from the frame and gravity will keep it in place until you can physically remove them and place it someplace secure where it wont roll away...
Cheers
