Herself decided that today was a good day to take her Mother for a drive up the North Shore of Superior for dinner, so I decided that it was a great day to head to the range with some wheelguns. I don't shoot them as much as I should (or would like) so I loaded up a bag with some ammo and speedloaders, a holster or 3 and a fistful of history and off I went.
I arrived to find myself all alone and had a nice couple of hours shooting groups, practicing reloads and generally just kakking around, which I seldom if ever get to do. I apologize up front for the crappy pics, they were taken with my blackberry and photobucket was up to some weirdness tonight and wouldn't let me embed images - sorry about that. Here goes...
The wheelguns - a 4" Model 10, an identical Model 13, a 4" Model 66 (my first handgun ever), my 4" Model 28 Highway Patrolman and just for laughs, a 4" Model 18 in .22LR. The guns are all stock with the exception of the 66 which has a dovetailed front sight (black post) and a bobbed hammer, and has been run through the bead-blast cabinet.

A few typical groups with the Highway Patrolman. All noted as shot from 15m were fired standing supported with 2 hands and in single action mode...
I know that there's controversy over "The Load" as published in Speer #8 but I've used it for years and have had no issues at all, though I do limit it primarily to N Frames and if I fire it in K Frames I ensure that they are .357's. It shoots well in everything I've tried it in and does not seem as hot as some vintage .38-44 that I've fired some years back. It goes an honest 1150 over the chrono out of a 4" barrel.

This Federal load is consistent but though marked as +P it only clocked about 840 last time I ran it over the chono

The Model 66 didn't like the SR4756 load for some reason and this was average for the 3 groups that I shot out of it:

I had to shoot it again with a known quantity. This has been a go-to for me for years and has always performed well for me - as noted, that's 12 rounds there...

This Model 13 has always been a good performer and has an action like glass from lots of shooting over the years. It turned in this group with "The Load" and shoots it well at distance also, especially in SA mode:

It shot the Winchester Treasury Load well also. This load is quite blasty, but very little recoil...

And to top it off, here was the group of the day from the 4" Model 10 - must be something about the .38 Special in an actual .38 chamber!!!

Had a blast - now all I need to do is convince all the square gun shooters at the club that we really NEED a revolver match!!!
