Hey

Im looking for a .357mag revolver that i can buy a 9mm cylinder for.

Preferably double action, Stainless steel and a 4.2 barrel or small as possible for restricted.

I just think it would be cool to have a firearm that can shoot 9mm, 38 and 357.

also save some money shooting 9mm.

not really. 38 and 9 are nearly the same price. wolf's reloads are within 1% price-wise if you compare the cheapest stuff. you'll probably spend more trying to find such a gun than you'd save in ammo costs.

Ruger Black Hawk convertible in single action is the only revolver i know that shoots 9mm 357. Not sure the barrel lenght. AGE

You need a Medusa, good luck finding one...

Why are 9mm revolvers so uncommon? Is would be nice to only have to bring one calibre of cartridge to the range.

Browning, or Fabrique Nationale (FN) made the FN Barracuda.
The one pictured below is a 3 inch barrel and I'm uncertain if it was
ever made with a longer barrel. Personally, I'd love to come across
one of these, because if Browning made it, you know it's gotta be good.
Unfortunately, this one sold very quickly.:(

Yep, I saw that one, too late as well. There are a number of them floating around. Quite a few still NIB in the Excited States of America, but being prohib cant bring them in. Anyway, i believe most of those dont have the 2nd cylinder.

In my research i have not come across any longer barrels. There is info suggesting that an Astra revolver is identical to this and that Astra may have actually manufactured them.

OH, great. Now I have to start researching Astra revolvers.:)

Yup, thats true. Astra made one to enter the LE market in N.America but timing was not so good, as s/autos were rapidly taking over. The Astra Police model was a 357mag 3in bbl with a second cylinder for 9mm(along with moon clips). It is identical in appearance to the FN. Had fixed sights. I have one sitting in its original packings and have shot it a few times. Performs well but it was designed as a service revolver.

OK, so what are you really saying after that large "but" in your last sentence?

Taurus makes some in 9mm, but they would be prohib... Maybe they would be willing to do a run of 4.2" for us?

A couple of years ago, I found a 9mmP Smith 547 here. I'd owned one (with a 3" bbl.) in the US, and found it really a remarkable design, quite accurate and easy to shoot. Barry Jensen of Bits of Pieces put a 4.25" bbl. on it, and I have it as a "restricted" handgun. They do show up occasionally, and no, I don't want to sell mine.

The 9mm case is tapered so it sets back in the cylinder when fired and can bind the cylinder. That is why the S&W 547 has a rim pin next to the firing pin. The purpose of the rim pin is to strike the case at the time of firing to prevent set back. It other revolvers the moon clip prevents set back of the fired case.

As I recall, Astra made the Barracuda and applied the FN stamp. I remember seeing one in Edmonton some years back and I thought it had a 4" barrel, but could be mistaken.

Ruger made a Six (not sure if it was the Speed Six of Service Six) with a spring extractor for the 9 mm round for a foreign client; could have been French. It was not adopted and the concept, unfortunately, never made it to the North American market. I have not seen this Ruger, but have heard and read about it. The long delayed Charter Arms pistols were reported to have a similar extractor resulting in a patent infringement, hence the delay.

I like the 9 mm in a revolver and have several 547s, a 940 and a few Speed Sixes.
