Revolver question?

I just purchased a used S&W M 60. Its an older model. When I try to fire in single action and squeze the trigger slowly, the hammer comes down but the trigger moves forward and there is no contact with the firing pin to the primer. It seems that you have to pull the trigger fast and firmly to have the revolver work in single action. Its a weird feeling. It works fine in double action. The trigger weight on SA seems really light, but I think this is not the problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks

When the trigger returns, the hammer falls back thus retracting the firing pin.

Try holding the trigger to the rear and then see if the pin prodrudes.

How does it shoot?

Trigger Job

It sounds as if someone has either done a home-brewed "Trigger Job" on this gun or replaced a part such as the trigger or hammer. These need to be precisely fitted...

The single action pull just drops the hammer into the double action mode, pushing the trigger ahead, right? If you at that point forcefully pull the trigger, the gun fires?

Not the first one I've seen like this :)

Unfortunately, there is really no cheap fix...

There is either not enough sear engagement on the single action notch or the double action bar is protruding past the single action sear circle because of improper fitting. The usual cause is, as previously mentioned, an overzealous reduction of SA sear engagement by a "triggersmith". Hammer replacement is the best cure. Regards, Bill.
