Hi folks, just looking for some recommendations for an IPSC revolver. I am thinking about trying IPSC and I prefer a wheelgun to a semi-auto. I was originally thinking a restricted S&W 625 but these are hard to find.

Any revolver recommendations?

thanks in advance.

Obvious question, what do you own?

For revolver division, there isn't a lot of competition, so before you spend large, why not just use what you own?

Speedloaders are slower than moon clips, but so what. Enjoy, have fun. Buy what you find you need while learning about the limitations of your current gear.

Terrible ipsc gun, you can only shoot 6 rounds in revolver so having one that holds 8 is worse than useless it just invites a bump to open.

610 and 625 are best, a 686 with moon clip conversion is the next best

never knew that, what about if you were going against semi autos?

Generally speaking I shoot SAAs or cap and ball, so its pretty clear to me that I will need to buy another revolver - not that I'm complaining about it :p

Nothing wrong witha revolver for IPSC I personally play around with a 4" 586 with comp3 speedloaders Just keep in mind that u will be shooting agaimst other revolver shooters. Shoot whatever u are comfortable with and have fun. Most matches will only have 1 or 2 revolver shooters in it and they usually have a ball.

Actually no...the 7 and 8 round guns can be shot in PD but you have to abide by the rules for positioning of holster and ammo carriers.

well technically you can shoot a 6 rounder there to, or a 5 rounder in revolver division but its not going to be competitive unless your last name is miculek. I tend to err on the side of giving new people competitive advice

I've always wanted to shoot my 627 against the semi-autos in Production Division. Maybe next season.

I just found out that you can load to capacity if you're shooting in Production. Neat!

Time to find a 627 (I've been coveting them for some time) and start practicing moon-clip reloads. :p

really? I just (finally) did BB this year and asked that specific question to 3 different instructors and all said i could either shoot 6 in production, or as many as i want in open, no other options

If you refer to the list of handguns approved for PD you will see, listed under S&W and Taurus, language specifically allowing ANY DAO or SA/DA revolver with a barrel up to 5" long.

Id be looking for new instructors in that case...

This is the ipsc website where it gives you a quick break down of division rules, revolver is right in that list, it is odd that 3 instructors wouldnt know about it

Edit:i was wrong about the 8 shot bumping you to open if you shot more than 6, i had assumed it was like production but it turns out you just get one procedural for each shot past 6 before you reload.
