Revolver shot double action

Ganderite,
Smiths and the Taurus that are built the same way, adj screw to back off the pressure on the main spring, but that is for service, not to lighten up the hammer.
If that screw is backed off a bit , light strikes will happen.
It should always be tighten down, a lighter trigger spring will help.
Different primers can make a difference, mind you shooting paper, a light stick is no big deal, not like a service gun would be.
I was getting a couple light strikes in my 19 because it was getting some end shake in the cylinder from many K rounds.
The SA trigger on that is on par with my Hi-Standard Victor, lighter than my custom 1911 DA ? guessamation 5-6 lbs.
I just picked up another 4 in model 19-3, because at the price , I could not pass it up, It is all stock and way heaver trigger than my main one I shoot 19-2

I had Murray Charlton repair and do his magic on my S&W 28 and it is nothing short of amazing to shoot DA. Sadly he retired before I bought a few more S&W revolvers that would have immediately gone to him.

Federal primers tend to be more sensitive than the competition, and a lot of revolver shooters with light-tuned hammers will make sure they're reloading Federals in order to still have reliable ignition.

You neglected to preface your comment with a "So far as I know..." or "I believe..."

My Taurus has a coil hammer spring (like a Ruger) not a leaf spring (like a Smith).

The nut holding the spring on the frame is both knurled and slotted, for easy tension adjustment.

I just gave it 2 full revs, and it will now be 100% reliable with the S&B primers I use for blasting.

Back in the day I could do quite well with the S&W Model 10 that has been significantly reworked into a double action only PPC gun. Used to shoot some PPC and could empty 6 rounds on target almost as accurately as a semi in 9mm.

My father's S&W 547 with a red dot installed is a real pleasure to shoot in double action. It was his favourite. Only issue was when the club we belonged to changed rules and banned quick double action shooting. Not an issue at current club I belong to. I can shoot it as as well as my CZ85.

My 929 has TK Custom guts and is set at 5.5lbs DA only. It's Federals only and I even re-seat loaded rounds that I shoot in competition. It was very nice of FOC to have an awesome sale on them a while back, got plenty.

I can shoot my 929 way quicker and more accurately than a semi, which I why I shoot revo all the time. I think the DA slowed down the 2nd shot? Just couldn't shoot well with my 2011's. And hell Revo people are nicer and fun to shoot with.:)

Ok,I am talked into it. I will stick with one gun and try to shoot it DA for some accuracy.

You'll find that once you get good with the one you pick, you will do much better with the others as well.

I find the grips and their relationship to the trigger make a real difference in how well or poorly I shoot a DA pistol

Ganderite I haven't seen .38 sp 357 mag 44 mag or 44 S&W in any sporting goods or hunting fishing stores in at least 15 years. In fact other then a few reloading sites on here no one seems to carry them and the reloading sites are always out of stock. I have asked about some sporting good stores to bring some in and usually got told I would have to order a least a case of 1000. before they would even consider. Retail price is mostly be on my means or else I refuse to pay it.

I buy DRG bullets for about $70/1000

Powder by the 8 pound jug and primers 10,000 (minimum ) at a time

At any point int ime I would have 10,000 rounds of most calibers ready to go.

Loading is a hobby to me as much as shooting. Since I can only shoot three times a week, I have lots of time to load.

I am retired and cheap, so the thought of buying ammo (other than 22 and some shotshells) is a very foreign concept to me.

I hear you and yes I am able to reload but lack space to set everything up to do so. Its something I am working on. My main thing when I was looking for .38 sp. was target loads for my S&W 52 and I tried to order in about 500 rounds. and asked why no one carried the others as well. there has to be thousands of those revolvers around.

Same for me. Our club has a Thursday night pistol league from mid April to late September. We pick one steel challenge course and shoot that. Using revolvers requires double action. Often my times with the wheel guns are better than with the semi's. If you can master a DA revolver, it makes everything else seem so much easier.

Auggie D.

Yep, I would only ever shoot SA if I'm on the stop plate and my last round. But then I bought the 8 shot cheater revolver and stopped counting rounds. Now all I get is the (apparently hilarious) click and "FU¢K!" when I run out. Lol

.... not apparently hilarious...... it IS hilarious. ;)

And I agree with a lot of the other comments. Master DA and everything else gets easier.

Proper form is pull all the way through.
But it is easier to teach people staging.

Ruger GP100 is fantastic for staging cause you can feel the lockup before the hammer drops.
Smith is fantastic for the smooth pull all the way through.

Tape a laser to your barrel. (Or whatever mounting option you want)
Point the laser at the screw on a wall plate on the opposite side of your house
Pull your trigger in a smooth single pull and make it so the dot doesnt move.

I only wheelgun I can shoot DA is my S & W 2nd Model. I can stage it nicely...my ole Colt's, nope.

I’m sure you can stage the s&w. But it’s a night a day difference staging a GP100.
As for the colt though. Been soooooo long since I’ve shot one I really couldn’t comment.
Open to meet up and try them all though if you want.

The Colt and S&W pull though and surprise me.

The Ruger and Taurus are easy to stage.

I will pick a S&W and practice pulling through and pick a Ruger, and practice staging.

I am hoping I can learn to shoot well, pulling straight through.
