Wow, just wow. I was at the range today and had my 6" 1911 and my 5" S&W 45's out today. I shot better groups with the 625 that I've had less practice with than my match 6" 1911 that I've been shooting pretty regularly. I've been feeling for a while now that I've been fighting the move back to revolvers because I like the speed and ease of reloading autos, but just can't seem to get the same accuracy out of them regardless of what I try. Anyone else find that revolvers are simply easier to shoot and more accurate?

Though I enjoy both revolvers and semis I have to say that (not putting my Smith 41 in the equation), I shoot revolvers more accurately than semis.

I'd agree revolvers are simply easier to handle, shoot and gain proficiency with. With a revolver you tend to spend more time and focus on the basics before pulling the trigger. Also a rotating cylinder is a lot easier to deal with then a cycling slide. This all leads to more consistent and accurate shots.

Love my S&W PC 625 revolver! None of my semi's triggers comes close in crispness.
45ACP is my fav cal to shoot and I shoot it best (in both DA & SA action) out of my 625. Also, SWC's make nice clean holes in paper.
Besides, revolvers look so much more ###ier than semi's….ymmv.

I used to be a semi guy. My Blackhawk changed that. For me it's more like sipping scotch that bonging beer. Unless of course you are shooting a race gun semi auto, that makes you feel like you are shooting robotic laser beams. Problem is, so is everyone else in your class.

Taunting me with my old gun again.... If you ever want to sell it let me know! I'm shooting a 5" 625, I wish I had shot my reloads out of that PC before selling it. Was shooting a PPC target at 25m today, after the first warm up round I shot 3 strings of 18 rounds (6 kneeling, 6 left barricade left hand, 6 right barricade right hand all in 1.5min) and every shot was in the 10 or X ring. Friggen phenominal gun. I was shooting very close, but not quite with my STI Targetmaster.

My opinion is that it totally depends on the gun. My most accurate handguns are a 610 as well as my 1911 Valtro. In between I have a bunch of semis that range from super accurate to less accurate as well as revolvers that are like lasers and others that I've been searching for a load that works so long I finally gave up.

What load are you using for your 610? I have some lead rounds for my 5" 610 that aren't doing it justice.

This is one HG on my "Never Sell List". My son will be getting it when I'm done….
It almost always gets attention from the semi guys at the range especially from the younger guys who think its a dinosaur. When they see the one hole ragged holes (ok not all the time) they take a closer look and start asking questions. I think I've converted a few semi guys to revolvers….:)

Here's my confession of the day. I'm not blastin full power 10mm loads with the lights off at my range. One of the things that I love about the 10mm is it's versatility. Back in the day I used to carry a G20 in the bush for my ATC gun before they made us switch to revolvers. Back then I was loading up max loads with longshot and pretty happy with the results. These days my 10mm is reserved for target shooting (not IPSC or 3 gun or anything just plain old target shooting) and I don't feel like I need the most powerful loads at the range. That being said I've had some super accurate loads with W231 and just about any plated or FMJ bullet I can get my hands on. Just checked some targets and saw some pretty nice one's with both 5.8gr of 231 and a 180 fmj as well as 5.4 gr of 231 with 180 gr plated bullets.

A bit of each. I usually bring both because an off night with one can usually be salvaged with the other.

It's even more hideous looking than I remember! I think your son would rather have a 1911 or a 610 (I could probably help out with that)

The SA trigger action on my 686 is not going to be rivalled by any of my semi triggers so single shots and my revolver is hard to beat. Double tap and the semis come into their own. As far as accurate goes I don't have any 6" barrels but I can say that my high end 1911s are accurate, in my hands as much so as my revolver. Love both actions!

I shoot both equally well with light crisp SA triggers. My most accurate guns after 30 + yrs of shooting are .22 High Standard Military Citation (Hamden), CZ TS in 9mm and S&W 686-2 6" .38 Spl WC . All will group in the 10 ring if I can hold it.
I've had custom 1911's and PPC revolvers in the past that were even more accurate. I have the Ransom Rest targets somewhere in my archives showing sub MOA groups @ 25 yds.

i could never choose between pistol and revolver. Love them both, but revolvers are way more fun. more power and easy and accurate? perfect for guys that will only see the range.
