Didn't realize that was a brand. I wasn't familiar with it.

I'm mostly interested in the bullet weight. So was it 145 or 147 grain ammo? We've been finding the RFB seems to prefer lighter faster ammo, over the 168 grain stuff we've tried. Let's try and be specific regarding the ammo. It might help with the quest for high grade target stuff as well.

Where does one pick up some of this stuff? I'm afraid of a possible cinder block invasion and might need some verified effective ammo. :D

On a side note, Anyone else find it funny how many Police officers have this rifle? :wave:
 
Sfrc sells it. I think its 145 grain. I bought mine locally cause I wanted to try a few boxes first. I'll definitely be grabbing more for cheap plinking and defense against rabid zombie cinder blocks!

Now, I've finally got the RFB shooting in the ball-park I had hoped it would... (1.5 to 2 inchs @ 100 meters)

As I've said before, this rifle is VERY difficult to bench shoot... Previously, I had noted alot of vertical stringing, I believe this was due to only sandbagging the front of the rifle...

Today, out of frustration with the grapefruit & orange sized groups I was getting using Portugese Nato ball ammo and Federal/Winchester/Remington 150 grain softpoints... I brought out two 168 grain loads that had produced great groups before in my Savage 12 FV. I also started chambering one round from the mag, removing the 20/5 round mag & placing the rifle on two sandbags to get it solidly seated... This resulted in an INSTANT improvement in groups! Down to a reasonable ~2 inches with the Varget handloads... WARNING! I noticed that some of my primers were slightly flattened from my 44 grain Varget handloads, I WILL BE REDUCING the load BEFORE proceeding with more Varget testing...

Here are the Varget handloads, these are the first groups I did the above sandbag process with...

This would be along the lines of how I shot my first groups (where I had better results). I have been using 5 round mags, so benching has not been a big deal, plus I have tons of practice with the tavor - but before I figured out my reliability issues I had to shoot groups by pulling and releasing the charging handle every shot, which is what you were doing...

...what I am getting at is perhaps the increased accuracy is not a result of better benching, but a result of the first shots (manually cycled) being more consistent than followup shots (gas cycled)?

I know this is the case with my M14. If I fired 5 1st round, manually cycled shots at one target and 5 shots in a row at another you can see a noticeable difference in group size and POI.
 
I shot some 10 round groups with a cool off period between groups. The barrel is only slightly warm after 10 rounds, and the shots towards the end of the group were no less consistent than the first shots. Each group was larger than the next, but I don't think that was due to heat (I let the barrel cool down some), I am sure it was because each group was a higher powder charge. The groups were roughly 2-3" from best to worst and nicely circle shaped with no obvious stringing.
 
Changing my scope on the RFB to a Burris PEPR mount with quick release. Fireball just put one on his. I've seen a few RFB on this site with this mount. Seems to be the right height. It's difficult with this rifle to find rings that are just right.

More ammo testing should begin soon once the mounts are set up, and some there's some time for shooting.

Hey Nimrod#1 - did you ever get your RFB? I was hoping to see one up close before buying one and getting some local feedback first. I'd be willing to trade some time with my CQ556 if you like at the range? I'll even feed them both (for a little while anyway). :D

No not yet but I am # 3 so mine is in the next shipment,the last one was like 2 months ago so I'm waiting for a call any day now.
 
anybody there left-handed tried this rifle? I was thinking about purchasing one and willing to wait in line for it depending if it's good for a lefty. That and the availability of FAL mags

Changing the rifle over for a leftie is SUPER SIMPLE! The only thing that needs moving is the cocking lever!!! By knocking out the two rear pins, pulling back on the bolt carrier to it's rearward position, you can pull out the cocking handle & place it back in on the left side... Simple!

As for mags... I'm waiting for the Rock River Arms LAR8 mags... Waiting... Waiting... They will be mine!

The Burris PEPR mount with quick release arrived today, courtesy of Fireball. This is the newest version of the mount. Others on this site have used the non quick release and when asked have said the height for their scopes was perfect. Getting your scope the perfect height seems to be a bit of a challenge with the RFB. Well, it is the perfect height. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

One of the concerns when we ordered the quick release version was the fact that the quick release is on the left side which interfers with the charging handle. Honestly it would tick me off but I'd live with it just due to the rest of the mount being pefect. As it turns out though, you can turn the quick release handles so they face backwards instead of forward. This solved the problem. The quick release latch now sits exactly where the charging handle stops. It works great.

Kel-Tec RFB, Burris Fullfield II 3-9x 40mm with Ballistic plex, and Burris PEPR quick release mount. For those wanting the component list.

I'm really looking forward to shooting this rifle some more. With the previous rings I had the scope was never the right height. That metal stock isn't much fun when you're having to press your cheek into it, or do the looking over the scope trick because it's too low.

If you pay attention to the relationship between the rail height and the stock - just transfer your AR15 setup over and call it the day.

ie, use scope mounts that are designed for mounting optics on flattop AR15.

I will also put the charging handle on the right side, so you won't wreck your fingers or create stoppage with your thumb.
 
I'm not that fond of having the charging handle on the right. The fact that the Germans had it right in 1944 (1942 for the first prototype if I recall right) and yet we've had to live with the AK influence of the charging handle on the right has always bugged me.

Yup the AR-15 scoped setups are the right height. This Burris mount is designed for the AR. But I have an Eotech 553 on my AR-15 which doesn't work well with the RFB. However The M21 mepro sight off my Tavor with quick release works perfectly.

With the Burris mount you can set it up to work perfectly. I'm sure there are others as well that will do the job.

It's a bit more work getting it perfect but that's what's so great about threads like this. You can read what works and doesn't or what has drawbacks. Unfotunately Im the type of person that switching the charging handle, turning the mount the wrong way or living with knuckle drag would bug me since it's not perfect.

The way it's set up now I can quickly change from the 3-9x scope to the M21.
It works for me. The reason this mount was chosen was based off the input and trials from other gunnutz with RFBs. Thanks guys/gals.
 
just got the call 20 minutes ago,mine is IN,I will be picking it up next week,I bought a used eclan c79 for it but I will look at other optics options when I'm at P&D.
