Hey nutters,

I am looking for some opinions from folks who have shot the Kel Tec RFB and the XCR-M. I am looking for a higher caliber black rifle to replace my XCR-L .223. It will be used for longish range target shooting, deer/elk/moose hunting (if I ever get a tag for the latter 2), as well as it will ride with me in the tractor for gopher defense (also is .308 good enough for gopher protection? Lol jk). It is for the tractor and hunting that I am leaning towards a RFB.

I guess I am asking if you would recommend a RFB over the XCR-M, as well as what would be a reasonable trade in terms of a cash differential for either of these for my .223 XCR, with ~1500 rounds down range?

I appreciate any insight, thanks!

I have both.....RFB, awesome for hunting, ride along, and any kind of general work....Gophers with a .308, well sure if you want to turn them inside out. Range gun, not so much, you have to really practice with it as the ergonomics are quite different. The XCR, for me in reverse of the RFB, great for the range, good for everything else. Size is the biggest factor, the RFB is a lot shorter.

I have both too.

The XCR-M is a fun gun to shoot once you get it broken in, plus mine loves pmags and hates the factory ASC mags. The only problem I have with the XCR-M is its really front end heavy. Don't expect a seriously accurate rifle out of it though. Best groups are 1.5" to 2".

As for my RFB, pretty decent compact little rifle. I enjoy how it handles and shoots and it shoulders like a 4 pound gun. Again don't expect anything super accurate but I would recommend this for someone who wants to do some hunting as its compact size doesn't catch on every tree branch when your walking through the bush.

I really do t get the rfb so hard to bench shoot :s just put 3 sand bad in the front and one under the mag!

I own an RFB and have shot the xcr-m recently. I prefer the RFB but like them both. I find the RFB to be easier to shoot offhand and even without a brake I think it's more comfortable to shoot. The xcr is easier to shoot off the bench but they are both about the same in the accuracy department. About 1.5" at 100yds with some ammo, a little better if you find a round it likes but usually worse with cheap ammo. Both reliable. Both fun.
The RFB would be better for truck and tractor.

If possible find people locally that own one so you can hold them and figure out which one feels better to you. Some people just can't get used to a bullpup.

Good luck picking one. You better just buy an xcr to play with while you get on a list and wait for an RFB. You can always sell one on the EE for what you paid or more if you don't like one ;)

Thanks for the opinions guys. Sounds like the RFB holds up will against the XCR, so we will see about trying to get ahold of a RFB. I guess one more question I have is about the charging handle. It is located at the very front, correct? So me being a lefty and passing it off to a righty wouldn't be an issue?

the charging handle on the RFB is on the left side in the front, and non-swap-able, so you may have some ergo issues as a lefty. That said, you'd have the same issue with the XCR as the charging handles are in more or less the same place, with the RFB being a little more forward.

Um yeah man go checkout your RFB again. The charging handle does swap. I did it on my RFB.

When you pull it out for breakdown and clean you just swap it to the other side when re-installing.

What he said about charging handle...very easy and fast to move it over to the opposite side. I suffered a nasty injury to my right hand on the opening day of deer season two years ago, and after the doctors sewed my parts back on, I was now left handed. Not wanting to miss out, I swapped the handle over and out I went. Also due to it's mass centralized design (politically correct bullpup), I was able to keep the gun on target one handed with very little effort. As a hunting / truck / ATV gun, it's compact size, balance and maneuverability make it an excellent choice.

With respect to accuracy, I can shoot loony sized groups all day long from the bench with Winchester 168gr Ballistic Silvertips. It is a little more difficult to rest, but with the dedicated 5 round magazines it's much easier.

Cheers

I have actually found it pretty easy to fire the RFB one handed, that is a great point I never thought to mention until you brought it up...
and just to clarify, i twisted my wrist pretty bad jumping off the quad and was forced to fire offhand while resting the rifle on my lame arm. I dont think i could have done that with the XCR-M...

major ergo issues if you cant take the 5 second it take to switch the charging handle side ;)

Just love reading posts where someone with absolutely no clue decides to tell us how it is.

Charge handle can be swapped in about 30 seconds

Anxiously awaiting your video. Any takers for "I can do it in 10 seconds."

Its actually closer to 15 seconds :D

What did you expect from a noob that joined this month. Dude probably thinks RFB is same as XCR.

joining this month doesn't mean that this is the first time I've ever heard of a gun, I was told that the charging handle was not swappable, apparently I was wrong, and will admit my mistake. But there's no real call for bashing people like that, grow up.

Yes and they had weapons of mass destruction in Iraq apparently.

Why is it people talk out there backside about things they have never experienced first hand? Internet makes everyone an expert thanx to google apparently.

Dude, people make mistakes, chill out. No I have not owned an RFB, I have not disassembled one, nor have I built one out of popsicle sticks and spit, I was simply relaying information I had gathered, which was wrong. Lets just cut out the "jump on the newb for saying something stupid" thing now, it doesn't make you look smart.
