I saw a local gun store had a RIA 10-22 clone for sale, but no stock ,just the action and barrel and magazine complete for $ 129 bucks.

Would it be worth buying, and later on use it as a project gun and add a new stock ?

Thanks

I picked one up too.
I see you're in MB.
I also picked up a Knoxx Axiom Blackhawk stock for it at Cabela's.
When I was there they had 3, I took one.
They are hard to come by but a very light stock.
You'll need a takedown screw and washer if your action didn't come with one.

And the screw is different then a Ruger 10/22....not even sure what the thread is.

Thanks guys, think I`ll go check it out.

Paatz- I`ll check for the action screw and Cabelas for a stock.

They still have the Axiom in stock.

Depends on how far you want to take the project. I understand the barrels are not interchangeable with Ruger barrels.

I loved my RIA 10/22 - SFRC had a sale for $199 for the whole rifle a while back, was a great deal. I put thousands of rounds threw mine and never had an issue, fit great in the Archangel 10/22 stock as well.

I personally didn't feel like spending an extra $150 for an actual branded Ruger rifle when the RIA was available.

That retailer will provide you with an action screw, they have them separate in a box.
Mine was too short for the Tac Star stock but found one that worked.

Shot about a brick through mine, I would buy again.

Yup, Jason gave me one.Got some .22 Magnum CCI mini-mag too for another rifle that`s coming in the mails.

I got one of these from Wholesale sports when they were clearing them out for $129 new. I've been looking at buying a new stock for it but still haven't put a single round through it yet. I'm impressed with the quality of the rifle given the price though. Really, the stock is the only thing I don't like.

Are you guys saying I may need a longer screw in the RIA used threads in order to install any of the new aftermarket stocks?

I ended up buying the ATI AR-22 conversion deal ,seems pretty nice, heafty and lots of aluminum, plus it was on sale.

I figured since it`s a plinker, might as well tart the SOB up a little.I`ll see how it looks next to my REAL ARs...LOL

Might even make a barrel shroud for it.

Cheerio

The stock bolt used with the wood stock may be long enough. The one I was given with the barrelled receiver and trigger group was too short. I believe it was 1/4 inch standard thread.

i picked up 6 of the RIA's with no stocks.
i had a bunch of old wood and hogue stocks laying around from previous builds to i just chucked them into those.

i did a big write up about it..... last winter i think it was???

anyways, the only bad thing i found in the 6 i cleaned up was the bolts.
take your apart and im sure the bolt is nasty, they all are.

invest 10 minutes with some 1500 grip wet and a buffing wheel and it will run like a top.

3 of the ones i picked up went to co-workers and 1 went to my dad, i kept 2 for my kids when they get a bit older.
i only put a couple boxes through each to function check them but i didnt have one hickup with any of them.
solid guns.

they based them on the early 80's Ruger from what i could tell.

That`s good to know.I`ll take it apart and see.

I purchased a Weaver base for a 10/22 in stead of the provided Ria dovetail type base and used the RIA hardware to mount it, topped by a cheap NC Star P4 Scope.

My nephew's favorite plinker.

Heck, that would be my favorite plinker too !!

OK now ,I`m kinda new to this 10/22 thing, besides being one of the most popular rifles to personalize and probably the most modifiable (except maybe the AR platform) ,I got to know, why the clear magazines ?

Do they not make magazines in black ? AND....without staring a whole big thing ,what`s the max capacity now ?

I would like to buy a few more mags, in BLACK and ones that are well made and reliable.

Thanks

BB

PS- I didn`t know they made Ruger 10/22s in .22 magnum and .17 HMR (Ruger 10/17), although they never took off and didn`t last long. That would have been cool !!
