I'm looking at buying a .22 so I can learn to shoot with sights, since all of my current experience so far is with shotguns. I'm pretty much sold on a 10/22 cuz I like the ability to tinker. But because nothing in life is ever easy, I'm also toying with the Rock River Arms clone. Does any have any expedience with modifying them RRA? Are all the aftermarket 10/22 parts gonna fit? For the most part it's gonna be a paper puncher, and cheap platform to figure out how to actually hit paper in some semblance of grouping.

The thread pitch for the scope mounts are different and the barrel is mounted in a different way. So, aftermarket scope mounts and barrels aren't going to fit. Otherwise the RIA M22 is compatible with 10/22 aftermarket parts.

Mine seemed well enough made, was all metal and had a very crisp trigger without any takeup or creep but that was probably just luck.

So, forgive my ignorance, with the scope mount thread pitch being different would something like a universal chunk of pic rail work or does it have to be specific to the rifle if I wanna slap an optic on it eventually?

they come with the rail that ruger 10/22's use to come with back in the 80's.

and after market rails fit just fine on the RIA, you just need to use the screws that come with your RIA and not the screws that come with the aftermarket rail.
the take down screw is also a different thread so you have to use the one that comes with the RIA if you want to change the stock.
and the barrel has a larger fitting so you cant use aftermarket barrels.

so in a nut shell you cant change the barrel.

if your looking for a decent cheap gun to get ya up and going the RIA will do that.
that said for $200+ bucks that they run now id just pick up a BNIB Ruger 10/22 for $270 that way you can build on it to your hearts content.

here, go to this link, its a post i made in this forum back in Jan comparing 6 RIA rifles to the 7 Ruger 10/22's i have.
i go over pretty much everything about them and compare them.

hope it helps.

RIA vs Ruger 10/22 CGN Thread

Awesome. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! I guess I could have used the search button. But I read something about post count and accessing the EE:cool::cool:

Apologies for a double post everyone.

Edit: Just read your old post, excellent info. Seems like for the extra cash its worth it to get the real deal. Also where are you finding a 10/22 for $270? I can't find new for less than $300

sorry, last one i picked up was 2013 and it was $270 so that price was on the top of my head.

Jesus your right!
i just went and looked and they have gone up a LOT in price over the last year or so!

If the OP isn't in a big rush.....watch sales at cabelas and WSS. The stainless synthetic usually goes for around the $320.0 mark and the standard blued/wood for right at the 300 mark on sale. The last sale was just last week. Usually around every 6 weeks or so.

All the Canadian Tire stores that I've been to in my area, have base model wood or synthetic Ruger 10/22s for $270-$280. I would imagine their prices are chain wide.

Not that I'd recommend buying one, regardless of price ;)

I'll throw in the fact that my RIA also has a very passable trigger, short travel and ok weight. I don't support Ruger but the price on an RIA with all metal construction.. why not?

the good thing about the metal trigger is that you can work with it.
if its ruff you can polish the heck out of it and get it smooth.
you cant do the same with the poly.
