hi guys. any one here have any experience with uberti richards-mason revolvers and or 1872 open top revolvers. I am thinking of adding a cartridge gun to my cowboy shooting guns, currently I am using a pair of pietta cap & ball .44s ( 1860 army & 1851 confeterate ). thanks for your input. Jed.

I am thinking of getting one of these as well. I handled both at Shooter's Choice but eventually decided not to purchase until I heard some first hand experience about how they actually shoot and function.

A fellow SASS shooter uses a Uberti open top in .38 spl with 5 or 5.5" bbl and he is quite satisfied. I have tried it a few times and was impressed. In my hands it is a very natural pointer. It had one issue from day one though. The firing pin tip was very small compared to the firing pin hole in the recoil shield and it was also too long. Even with mild loads it occassionaly pierced primers and the primer flowed back into the firing pin hole causing the cylinder to bind. I made a new shorter and fatter firing pin for him and the problem has yet to re-occur. I have talked to a few other open top shooters and they have not had this issue - hopefully an isolated incident.

Hello,
I shoot a pair of 1871 Open tops in 45 Schofield, with 7.5 barrels and i love them. They are my main match guns. I have had them for three years and they shoot even better now than when they were new. They always function perfectly, no lock ups .I shoot full house loads of 2FF Goex black powder, none of that new smokeless stuff for me!! Get a pair, you won`t be disappointed!!
