Has anyone bought/used one of these stocks and care to comment? I'm thinking of getting one for a Savage Model 111 with detachable mag.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea of what they mean by '99% Press Fit Inlet'?

I never had an issue of the ones I ordered for timing. Just make sure they have what you want in stock and that they dont need to build it.

They mean that it will take some work to get it to where you are finished. They are NOT a open box, drop in and go shooting stock.

Mine needed a fair bit of sanding and shaping and trimming here and there to get it to look not like a club. They arrive with abundant "over size" wood to them .
LOP, comb shape, pistol grip sizing , forend length... all need to be done and shaped and trimmed and sanded and final sanding.... the finishing

I find the fitting of the action to be quite good (99%) with only details such as bolt handle groove, and maybe a slight sanding for a mag well or deeper safety etc needing to be done.

But it is a lot of time to get it to where you want it.

But for the money - they are worth it. Just get a dust mask cause you are going to need it.

Get one from Boyd's instead if they have what you want

I waited over 4 months for a stock from them for a Savage 17Hmr, finally one I did get it, it was wrong, not even for the Savage even though they state it is, really pissed me off as it was a Christmas gift for my son.

Fortunately I was able to send it back, full refund, including all postage and handling, duties, etc....

99% means you have a bit of sanding to do, if any to fit your rifle into the stock, in my case we did not do much but a good final sand over all to get the stock smooth, everything else fit in correctly, but the cut of the stock was wrong, the trigger stuck out about 3 mill out of the bottom, there was no way to get it to work

They have nice stuff, but Boyd's is just as good and takes less time

I did get a Boyd's stock, and it worked out great

They're fine stocks, but are un-finished. You need to do some sanding at a minimum, some shaping of the forend and comb (if desired), some minor inletting, and bedding.

They are not too far off, you could (and I have) finish them without any power tools, but a dremel and a palm sander make the job a lot easier.

If they aren't in-stock when you order, it could be 6-8 months before you receive them, it seems that they tool up for certain designs and actions in rotation. Check the 'in-stock' items first if you're in a hurry

Thanks for all the replys. Those stocks by Joel Russo are definitely nice, but probably out of my price range.

They are nice... as long as...

- You don't mind the wait. If they have it in stock, they'll ship within a week... if it's a special order (select grade of wood, different patern) it can take a while... over 6 months in my case.

- You don't mind doing some sanding and inletting. These are not press fit...

- If you like walnut, they have some smoking deal on their so-call 2nds...

I restock at least 25 to 30 guns a year, I have 4 Richards and 2 Boyds in my shop right now. The Boyds are good and they ship fast, the Righards can take long time to get in but are a much better stock. The wood used is better quality and has more glue soaked into the wood makeing it stronger. Both will finish into a very good looking stock, It takes me about 4 to 5 hours to get a Boyds or Richards 95% ready for glass bed and seal coat useing handtools (NO POWER TOOLS) if you want to go with real wood instead of plywood the higher grade Richards are a great deal
