For bench shooting,100-400 yards,i am thorn between 3 scopes, bushnell 6500 tactical 4.5-30x50, the vortex viper pst 6-24x50 ffp, and the sightron s111 ss 8-32x56. By your experience wich one is the best buy! many thanks.

If this is Benchrest only go with fine cross and highest magnification available, my choice would be Sightron SIII 10-50x60

If you are shooting from a bench at BR type targets out to 400 yds, Its hard to beat a Weaver 36x for utility and value.

You don't need the expense and added complications of a variable. Weaver has 1/8 min clicks and BR recticle.

Bushnell and Sightron sell quality scopes that are made in Japan. Vortex Viper scopes now come from Philippines and are no longer in the same class for quality.

If you are target shooting check that you are getting 1/8 MOA reticle adjustments, and you have the elevation adjustment range that you will need.

I beg to differ. I carry both brands.

I have shot both brands, handled both brands, used both brands, dealt with warranty on both brands.

I have also shot with Nightforce and S&B.

My eyesight is also 20/15 and I can't tell the difference between the glass on the two scopes pictured below, in multiple lighting conditions. Both are 2-7 x 32

So unless you can back up you statements with specific reasons why you don't consider them in the same class...........

Want to find a difference? I have both Bushnell and Vortex in stock which clients are welcome to compare for themselves.

It is a rifle, with a f added as grammatical mistakes. Sorry for that offense.
As a cgn member, with a poor english,i just ask for help For a good(rifle)scope .Thank you to all those who share their experience.

Aye, no problem old fella. I was joking. What about a Sightron Big Sky with fixed magnification, since you're going to be using it for benchrest, it should work good for you.

new to rifle scopes, but not to optics in general. it's not that hard to make a good low-mag scope with such a small objective. i would guess that a $500 scope wouldn't be that much different optically from a $200 scope (in the 2-7x32 range)

but on a 6-24 or 8-32 , especially with 50mm or bigger objectives, the good glass and good coatings cost $$$$$$$.

if you took a photo with a $120 Nikon 28-80 zoom lens and i took one with a $350 Nikon 28-80 zoom lens, probably not much of a difference in 80% of the cases. but a $350 Nikon zoom and my $1000 Nikon fixed portrait lens with a 72mm front will be a MUCH bigger difference. and i'd pack up and go home if someone brought out the Nikon 200mm f/2 lens with a 100mm front. that $7000 lens' front element is probably worth more than my entire kit.

BP7, of course there will be a difference between optics of those price differences. What is your point? The point I'm making is Vortex scope quality didn't suddenly drop off because of a mfg change.

I think a lot of guys are talking about quality of the glass, but very little about:
-eye relief
-adjusting for paralax
-repeatability
-quality of turrets

Glass is very equal, unless we talking Swarovski or Zeiss. Most of the serious top glass producers use Japan, China (Chinese bought Japanese factory some time ago, so it is still good quality) or Schott. Important factor in good glass is coating and buffing. Please take a look at Nightforce and Sightron. Glass is pretty much the same, but what makes Nightforce more superior scope? overall quality and craftsmanship with excellent choice of reticels and great turrets.

My two cents

As said, most guys can't tell the difference between glass in the same price range. I have trouble and I have better than average vision. Options, features, warranty is where you start to see a difference. I bought Nightforce instead of Leupold because of price and features. Compare scopes in similar price ranges and look at everything offered with it. Then if you play with them side by side, so much the better
