Rifle adapter - shoot .22 rimfire ammo in a .223

I really don't see how that would work...

I mean, if the shell is centered in the middle of the barrel, how the heck is the firing pin supposed to hit the rim!!??

JMHO

it uses an angled firing pin- these things are called auxilary cartridges and are made in various calibers-ie 308/30-06 fires a 32 acp, 223fires a 22, and there's a bunch of others- used to be made by a firm called marbles amongst others-if i remember correctly, the 22lr bullet was slightly undersized in the 224 bore- they do the job, but not as well as a dedicated 22 and you only get the one shot before you have to fiddle with it to get it ready to fire again unless you get a bunch of them-

Another thing I though of, is that with a .223 or some caliber like that, I believe the rate of twist is quite high, maybe around the 1 in 9" range? Maybe good for a round like Agulia SSS, but for a standard .22lr round, that is too much twist.

Is it be possible that using one of these could cause damage to a firearm?
unless you get into something that's grossly undersized/oversized thing- the bullet itself is roughlythe same or similar diameter to the regular slugs the rifle uses anyway, just a different casing and a whole lot slower- so no, no real harm should be able to be done - on the other hand, i've seen guys using these things having to open the action and knock out the adaptor with a cleaning rod- as to why that was i don't know- the rifles extractor should have taken care of it- of course, you realize that these will only work with a manual action, and then poorly

the quicker twist is required for heavier bullets not lighter- that's why colt and others make a sub unit in 22 rim for the ar15- the barrel does NOT come into play at all as the bullet is UNDERSIZED in the 224 bore( it's actually 224)
in other words, you're essentially firing down a smooth bore or no bore at all - look at the 22/243 example- there's no way that 22 bullet is going to touch anything on the barrel as it travels down- for a really good example, there's a 22/12 guage conversion

That's because the adaptor is the same shape as a regular cartridge but it's made of steel and isn't soft like brass so it won't conform to the chamber at all. I believe you're supposed to lightly lubricate the adaptor.

will a 22lr have energy to cycle the action on a AR?
To answer your question. I doubt it would budge.

The AR conversions work around the basis of the bolt/carrier group being an entirely different system. The buffer and spring in the AR remain stationary while the .22 conversion works with it's own spring inside the unit. Otherwise there's no way a .22 would cycle with that much spring tension.

I a have a couple- a 22lr in a 22/250 and a 45ACP in a 458 Winchester. I shoot both from Ruger #1's. The 22 is reasonably accurate but the 45ACP is only good to 25 yards or so. By 50 yards the "groups" have really opened up. I think that the 45 has to "jump" too far before it encounters the rifling.

Where did you get your auxilary cartridges? I phoned a few places in edmonton p&d and places like that...I had to explain what I was talking about...then they told me they didn't have them.

I'm looking for .32acp in .308
