Hey, I'll try make my question quick and simple. The last 15 years I have been hunting deer and black bear in BC with rem 700s. One is a 243 and the other is 7 rem mag. Both rifles have been great and are still more accurate then me but lately I have had the itch for a 9.3x62

I have been looking at husqvarnas and the m70 Zastavas on tradex. which way would you lean? I realize there are various husqvarna models but I do not know a thing about them yet, hopefully that does not complicate the question too much. I also do not mind buying a decent used one so that does not make more inclined to buy a Zastava.

I have a Zastava in 9.3x62 and I love it. It's very accurate and pleasant to carry. Husqvarna rifles have a good reputation. I have never owned one but would not hesitate to buy one.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I think you can't go wrong with either one.
 
I bought a used commercial FN Mauser 98 by Husqvarna in 9.3x62 in 2012 from Tradex. I glass bedded the action and mounted a Leupold scope. I have shot many 100 yard 3/4" 3 shot groups with Varget and Nosler Accubond 250 grain. Not quite as good, but very acceptable 1 1/2" groups with both PPU 285 and Nosler Partition 286 grain and Big Game powder. To my mind, it has pretty much replaced my 338 Win Mag as my "big bush" rifle. Kind of nice to have 5 in the magazine, versus 3 with most belted magnums, although that has never proved to be anything other than a thought of mine - have never been charged by a pack of anythings; have never fired more than twice at game without the opportunity to reload. FYI, for 30-ish years I have hunted whitetail and mule deer in Saskatchewan with a Ruger #1 in 7x57.
I bought a new M70 Zastava in 458 Win Mag in 2013 from Gagnon Sports. As received, it did not have a second recoil lug on the barrel; there was no cross bolt or reinforcement behind the magazine / ahead of the trigger cavity and the inletting for the trigger was absolutely cavernous. Within a few years, the bulkhead between the magazine and trigger well had cracked, and up to that point, it had never seen a full power load. I don't believe any of these would be issues with that rifle in 9.3x62 (except the bulkhead cracking). I have only ever fired it with 400 grain jacketed and 475 grain cast bullet loads in the "heavy 45-70" category, but I feel confident that the glass bedding and internal bolt that I installed will do fine once I start blasting full power 510 grain loads.
 
Both my 9.3's were pretty cheap, first one I got was a '98 HVA that was originally 9.3x57, a Nutter on here had bought a reamer and turned it into a 9.3x62. This thing shoots like a lazer, but kicks like a donkey.

The next one I used a FN98 (HVA Commercial) that I had laying around that came to me in 30'06. Went for one of the ER Shaw 9.3 barrels and had it installed. Also shoots great and recoil is much nicer in the Hogue stock. Haven't decided on barrel length yet as the 26" gives me some pretty impressive velocity...bit long to wheel around though, probably cut it back to 22" at some point.

Get yourself a Husqvarna 1600 and call it a day. Smooth to cycle, reliable and accurate.
 
I had a Ruger No.1-S 9.3X62, but when I found a No.1-A .35 Whelen, I switched my 9.3X62 to an M77 African.
 
Yes find a Ruger African if you can.
Or rebarrel a nice 30-06/270 etc. The 9.3x62 is great but it doesn't come in many platforms that i would consider.

The older Husqvarna's tend to be of very good quality. I already have mine, but if I were in the market I would look first at the FN M98 actions, then the 1600. Having the action glass bedded before you do a lot of shooting isn't a bad idea; these rifles have a reputation for developing splits at the tang.
 
I’ll go a different route all together. Since you’ve been using 700’s for years and are likely comfortable with them, I would suggest picking up one of the many quality older 30-06 BDL’s out there and order up a replacement barrel in 9.3x62. Then you’ll have essentially the same platform in 3 chamberings.

I know it’s sacrilegious to build a 9.3 on a push feed, but I doubt the rifle gods will punish you in this life or the next.

Then for the money you could pick up a Sauer, CZ or Steyr and have a superior rifle.

I had a Tikka hunter 9.3x62, and sold it as I picked up a Steyr model M in the same Calibre. I would not hesitate to recommend either, great rifles.

For the OP, the general consensus is that the husky will be a better fit and finish, but I'd look for a CZ full stock alternatively

If you want the ultimate pushfeed rifle, get a HVA / FFV / CG 1900.
Then, there are a lot of other options.
SIG / Swiss Arms SHR 970 is a very good choice, too.

I do have several of rifles in that chambering and Zastava is a good choice if you want to go new, rugged and affordable.
In the used rifle area, the HVA 1640 is a very good choice too, but very light, so if you are somewhat recoil shy, then, you may consider a HVA M 649 (FN 98) or a rechambered 146... if you reload you can get yourself M 640 (M38 based - they have short magazines) but the rechambered M 46 are modified to fit the standard length.
Personally, I would recommend a M98 based rifle if you want to go the 640 route.

I had the same quandary so I went the other way. Found an old pre-64 Model 70 in 3006 that had all collector appeal ruined already, and had it fitted with a McMillan compact edge, a stainless barrel in a #3ish Leeper custom contour, and an necg banded front sight to match the red field flip up peep. With a 21” barrel it weighs just over 8 lbs and points like a fine shot gun. Probably a bit pricier than what you’re looking to spend, but I have exactly what I wanted and didn’t compromise one bit.
