Rifle advice 9.3x62

i have had a few Husky 98 's,they are great guns but I decided on a Brno ZG 47 installed a Benchmark barrel ,milled up some express sights and made a stock from some local English walnut.

Wow! very nice. Although I'm guessing most people wouldn't want to put up that kinda $

I have a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62. Shoots 285gr Lapua Mega's into a ragged hole at 100yds (0.64"). Grouping at 200yds was 1.45". Haven't tried them at 300yds yet. Great calibre. I'm sure you'll be happy with what you choose.

Would love to know what your load is with that Lapua Mega. Would make a great bear and moose load!

I used 63gr H414 (max load), CCI 200 primer, Lapua case, COL 3.236". Velocity was 2296fps (5 shot average).
Of course disclaimer is: This load worked in my rifle, results may vary in yours. There I feel better now. I had one group using same load shoot a smaller 4 shot group (0.46") but I choked on the 5th shot an pulled it. Most annoying. Opened the group up to an inch.
Just some additional info: Load was sighted in at 2" high at 100yds. Drop at 200yds was 3".

Yep, and I sight mine in one inch higher, three inches at 100 yd. That puts it one inch low at 200, and four inches low at 250. :)

Dead-on hold on any big game animal to that distance, 300 yd on moose and bison.

Want to see how they group at 300yds. Will be entertaining that idea hopefully in the next few weeks. It's quite surprising in some ways how well larger calibre's do with regard to shooting groups. Everything I have up from 9.3x62 shoots an inch or less at 100yds off the bench. Tried offhand a few times. That was fun. Managed to keep most shots within a 6" bullseye.
The other bullet that performed well at the range was the Speer 270gr Spitzer. Certain loads produced 0.50" or less groups.

Please be sure to let us know your results at 300. My personal standard is to keep a mag full of 286 gr bullets inside five inches at 300 meters on our silhouette range.

That's a bit less than two minutes of angle.

Well finally got to shoot the 9.3x62 using the 285gr Lapua Megas at 300yds. Swirling wind was fairly stiff at about 25-30 km/h. Temp was 30C (40C with humidity). Humidity was 60%. 5 shot group size 5.81". Shots were in a ragged right to left diagonal slightly left of the bullseye. Top shot was 21" below centre, lowest was 24" below centre. For the conditions I thought that was pretty fair grouping

I have a Tikka Battue in 9.3x62, shoots very accurate with 286’s and H414, but it is very light , making it great for carrying all day, but when I shoot it recoil is stout!

For wind conditions like that, I would say that is far above fair grouping.

Excellent! Thanks for the report.

I just bought a CZ 550 Standard Safari .375H&H off the EE for $995. Once in a while you can find used CZ rifles for a very good price. If you find a 550 in 9.3x62 for under $1000 I would definitely take it over a Husky or Zastava.

could you tell us more about that choice?
a 602 i would understand, a cz550 for a long action like a 458 lott or 404 jeffery why not but for a 9.3x62 where there is even some plastic parts i do not think the price asking for them worth it but that is just me.

Finding a ZG-47 in 9.3X62 would be a real coup. On the other hand, these rifles are frequently encountered in .30/06, and a barrel from Ron Smith would give you an old world quality rifle that lived up the accuracy expectations of modern riflemen.

CZ only added plastic to the 550 later just before they discontinued it and it was the magazine follower and floor place. You can still order the metal replacement. I have the 550 Safari with metal follower and a 550 LUX with plastic. The plastic follower is quiet and doesn't mark up your cases. Its probably better. They didn't make the Safari Magnum in 9.3x62. It was in the smaller 550 Standard action.

This is my third 9.3X62. The first was a 1908 Brazilian with a 21” Bevan King Barrel. The second was a FN98(Model 50 Sears) with a 21” Heym barrel.

This one is a Brno ZG47 that started out as a .30-06. I had Mr Leeper rebarrel it with a 21” McGowan barrel in 9.3X62. He profiled the barrel so that the original iron sights could be transferred to the new barrel. I had Gary Flach replace the safety with a PTG 3-position unit and the trigger with a Timney. The stock is from a piece of English walnut(I think) that a friend gave me after the previous stock met with a mishap.

That is a beautiful rifle.

X2 with Mik123's comment. That is a beauty to be sure:).

Then I pulled off a real coup! Picked one up at Switzer's Auctions. Wasn't cheap but an exceedingly rare find.
