Rifle barrel twist

I need some quidence. I have multiple older hunting rifles and a bunch of WW1 and WW2 milsurps. How do I figure out the barrel twist. It looks like many bullet designs are built around the twist rate, but I have looked and not found any sources. Are there any sources out there or does anyone know a way that I can measure the twist myself?

Put a cleaning rod and brush down the barrel. Mark a reference on the rod with tape. Pull the cleaning rod and measure the distance for one rotation.

Start the brush and cleaning rod into the barrel. Wrap a piece of tape around the cleaning rod back near the handle and draw a line on the tape at 12 o'clock. Measure from the back of the action to the front of the tape. Push the rod in and when the tape
mark comes back to the 12 o'clock postion measure the distance again from the action to the tape. Subtract that from the first measurement. If it's say 10 inches less then you have a 1 in 10inch twist. You may have to do it a few times.

Unless you buy fancy heavy VLD type bullets, your rifles will handle the ammo.

The exception is 223, where the original 1:12 twist barrels won't shoot 69 gr bullets.
