Rifle Barrels

Lots of good barrels out there, I have used McGowen, Shilen, Pac-Nor and others... all pretty equal. Your primary concerns are; length, profile & twist... somewhat dictated by your chambering... I wouldn't worry so much about the rifling pattern, unless this build is for chucking cast. Are you going wood or synthetic? For what cartridge?

RJ....In an ultra light barrel, I doubt make of barrel is going to make any difference at all. I personally prefer stainless as I believe they have a longer throat life, most agree, some don't. I have pretty much exclusively used Bevan's barrels for the past 30 years so I'm a bit out of touch with the rest of the barrel world............

I like to hear what the gunsmith doing the job suggests. Currently waiting for a bbl from JC Custom Barrels. Good reviews. CDN made.

Yea they say its too LIGHT in SS and may not shoot ! RJ

I've used their #2 contour a couple times and it was fine for .257 R and 6.5X55... with your weight goal, you better be prepared to focus on "first shot" accuracy... pencil barrels can be flighty.

They say it's a safety issue, claiming SS gets too brittle in the cold. No problem building a #1 6.5 on ChroMo though.
While I have not met JC personally, I have chatted with him a few times. He is quite friendly and easy to deal with. Located close to me makes it a good choice to try one of his bbls.
Nice. It's great to have more Canadian choices. One of my buds has a .284 blank from JC. Not fitted yet, Im curious.
