I have taken to rearrange my gun locker and would like to fill a slot.
The caliber is 250-3000 savage and not a savage 99.
The action options I'm thinking of in no particular order if I can't find one already done
Sako L579 which is relatively straightforward
Rolling block or falling block which I know little about assessing for tightness etc...
I would expect a 7mm to be the most common candidate though if there were a 3006 it would be more easily rebarreled.
Are there affordable rolling or falling block actions available that would be suitable.
Is it easier to change rim size on a rolling or falling block.
Is rebarrel a reasonable option for the older actions?

depends on the amount of $'s you have to spend
my choice wound be a 1885 win action low wall
bolt gun rem 700 win 70 sako of coarse
fun calibre gophers yotes deer it would be excellent

A No. 5 Remington Rolling Block originally in 7mm could be converted. The extractor is already set up for a rimless case of the correct size. Finding a sound action at a reasonable price might be quite the search.
Most any medium length bolt action originally set up for a cartridge with .473 head should work.
One of the modern Winchester/Browning falling blocks in a rimless caliber should work, as would a Ruger No. 1.
Affordable might be a matter of opinion.

They did but it's a collection piece now. I'm looking fir a shooter. I've seen a couple selling for obscene amounts and I'd prefer a single shot.

I do know where there is a custom built Mauser 98 in 250-3000.
Heavy barrel done up nicely.
Not purrrfickt, but of the adorable sequence.

Scoped with an old ***** Redfield.

Had it at our last Loopyland gun show and it dint draw ne’er any attention for the quality that is is.

My how times have changed.

Perhaps OP you could Google N.Hamm?

It’s a great little caliber. Pick a short action you like and rebarrel a .22-250, .243, etc to make a great lightweight rifle. A Kimber would be sweet in .250-3000. Intersurplus has several Sako L579 rifles that would be good candidates plus Wildcat makes a stock for that action. Barrel twist of 1-10” is the new normal however some may argue for a 1-9” even. I prefer the 100 grain weight in the .250 for deer, etc. and some 75 grain bullets in a modern bolt rifle would certainly do for coyotes so long as you don’t plan on selling the fur. My only wolf was shot years ago in northern Labrador with a Winchester factory 87 soft point and it required some sewing!

One of the prettiest rifles I have seen (years ago now) was in a deer camp … it was a sporterized m98 (may have been a g33/40 action) in 257 Roberts built by someone at Elwood Epps.

It was a work of art and I think the 257 Roberts is a great alternative to 250/3000 … sorry while it has nothing to do with what you asked … it just brought up a distant and fond memory of that spectacular rifle :)

Remember - this is not a rehearsal and you only get to come this ‘way’ once!
