So, I kinda have a hard-on for Rifle Caliber Handguns, although I won't be able to buy in a while.

That being said- what's about there are rifle caliber handguns?
What I mean by that- is a chambering that is usually (or most often) found in rifles- ex: .223, .308, 7.62x39, etc.

Share what you know, or have.

Buy a Contender and then you can just buy various barrels for the pistol.
Lot's of choices as far as rifle cartridges are concerned.

I had a T/C Contender in .30-30 and .444 Marlin. The "Triple-four" kicked pretty hard with the factory 265 grain bullets, and I generally didn't like it much. The .30-30 was really nice. Recoil was very manageable, and with handloads featuring 150, 155, and 165 grain pointed boat-tails, it was very accurate.

Remington used to make their XP-100 bolt action handgun, I doubt they're very common though and would probably be hard to find. I'm not sure when they stopped making it.

There was a semi-auto handgun of some sorts in .30 Carbine..can't remember the name of it. Someone here will know.

Now, a lot of little AR and AK shorties are classified as "pistols" in the US because if you keep the stock off it, you avoid having to pay that stupid NFA tax they have. If we're including those, there's a ton of "handguns" chambered in rifle ammunition.

Interestingly enough, those rifle caliber "pistols" are also the reason why a lot of rifle ammo, mostly surplus, is banned from import in the US. I don't think armor piercing pistol ammo is legal to import into the US, and since you have those AR and AK "pistols," and because the ATF are a**holes, they classified 7.62x39 surplus as an "armor piercing pistol round" and banned it from being imported. As far as I can tell, there' no "pistol" in 5.45x39 in the US, so they can still get imports of that ammo. Aparantly talking about a 5.45 pistol in the US is a pretty taboo subject.

If I got anything wrong here, lemme know.

7.62x39 surplus is all over the states, and half the price of up here. Aim Surplus and CheaperThanDirt have plenty of it.

EDIT:

Actually, I just checked and you're right, all they have is TulAmmo "new surplus."

Classic large caliber double barrel pistol in the English gunsmith school style, used at close range to stop tigers which commonly leaped upon elephants carrying hunters in a Howdah in the far away colonial territories. During the first British colony government period in India, starting from 1840, the Howdah pistols were preferred by the army officers detached in the widest territories of the Empire. Blued barrels. Engraved locks featuring wide animals in their natural habitat, case hardened color finish. The walnut pistol grip stock is checkered and finished with a steel butt cap. Barrel Length 11 1/4". Weight 4.41 lbs. (20 ga), 5.07 lbs. (.50)

wasn't Taurus supposedly doing something with a revolver in 223? did anything ever come of that?

Ruger has a discontinued Blackhawk SA revolver in .30Carbine. But you may as well jump onto a .44Mag instead.

Other than US Firearm's BFR in .45-70 the ones I've seen or read about are all single shot types like that Remington XP-100 or the Thompson Contender and Encore pistols.

I've seen a couple of other bolt action single shots at shows that were made by some other company other than Remington. The name escapes me though.

there are ar "pistols" but those seem pretty pointless as you still need the buffer tube, so you might as well keep the stock

also! FN five seven pistol, sounds amazing

I hear those are easy to make from a simple shotgun :D
