Rifle Chassis or Conventional Stock

I really like my Tac21. I have a few mods in mind for it minor( talking to my machiest friend tomorrow )

Adding the CTR and riser are awesome for fast LOP changes!

It's just preference. Lots of sports use stocks that have pistol grips. Olympic target and biathlon rifles have them, F-Class rifle have them.

Nothing tacticool about this:

But it is so TECHNICALLY... COOL.

Assume 50m smallbore, off hand rifle?

I look towards a time when PRS rifles have more in common with this Walther then the battle rifles they are today.

I'm not saying that it usn't cool, just that those shooters using a stock with a pistol grip has nothing to do with them wanting to be tactical in any way. It's purely for comfort and performance.

The US style matches (what we refer to collectively as PRS) came about because their experience in Iraq showed them the shortcomings of their tools and techniques at that time. If PRS gets away from that too much (which sports that start off like that all seem to do), it will be time to move onto a new sport that better reflects what is relevant and practical at that time.

A double edged sword... no rules to allow max freedom and innovation... no rules allowing the gear and sport to go into directions never originally intended.

What is the practical point of Formula 1? None.. except the water downed tech has moved the basic car way ahead.

Better handgun techniques and handling created IPSC... it moved HG tech to heights. All sorts of cool ideas and tech. Things got WAY out of hand and new divisions with very strict rules had to be developed.... eventually, that was not enough and new groups were formed.

So PRS has some soul searching to do. What is the point? where are the boundaries? What are the core cultural values? Or are they going to let marketing and products and $$$ determine the evolution?

Give smart shooters weird and wonderful tasks (some of which I doubt are very real world realistic) and the freedom to invent better mousetraps and they will. The end result is all about winning the stage....

NOT winning a war.

PRS currently looks like the early days of IPSC... we know how that ended.

As mentioned, fit is key. Chassis are easier to adjust fit.

The big one too, and I haven't seen it mentioned, but fit changes based on shooting position. I find I adjust my Whiskey 3 while at a bench, vs prone. If I don't, it forces me in a awkward or incorrect shooting position. Standing, once again, new position.

This leads me to mention that many people shoot prone incorrectly. Correcting this often has massive improvements.

I enjoy my Whiskey 3 Gen 4 folder, and my buddies AX is nice. The difference here is the W3 can be shot with the pistol grip, or altered traditional fitting (Grip is very perpenduclar, but has a thumb rest, which I use)

My other buddy has a JAE, and regarding fit and finish, this one takes the cake, by far. Extremely well made with lots of well made and fit peices. The grip, while being more traditional, has an amazing texture.

At the end of the day, you just have to see what you like and go from there. All three of us like our stocks, but I think I'd sooner want the JAE vs the AI AX (actually by quite a bit), but I wouldnt want to give up my grip position for the shooting I do.

Boils down to opinion. The other stocks mentioned are all very good too.
