Rifle drills / training?

Mag changes, pistol draw, dry fire.

Set yourself a smaller target to reproduce the distance effect and shoot on.

I like to drill with my bess, order fire lock- to the shoulder- present- mount bayonet and then run through the order as a arm....good times;)

you can download the drill manual from http://www.northernbrigade.org/

1764 Manual of Arms.

Its interesting to see ,study and experience the evolution of drill from then to now.

Cheers

Reloading drills... learning how to and when to preform the right reloading drill is a huge help... and then learning to do them quickly is even better!

That and once you have gotten the basics down when you get to the range then you can start having some real fun. Try doing them all right after one another

My hunting partner and I have a 800 meter range on a slope up into some hills. On each side of our range is a ridge and we take truck tires with cardboard inserts and roll them off the ridges and across the range. They bounce and zig-zag and present broadside and quartering shots. This has proved unbelievably helpful in taking running game. It is also a lot of fun.

Nintendo 64 Goldeneye 007 Library Basement!

Green soldiers keep coming down the stairs (along with the Black detectives). Goes like this:

1) Soldier comes down the stairs
2) Aimer on (cannot recall which button on the controller, gotta go downstairs to look)
3) Place pink/red crosshairs on chin (just like a fig 12 target)
4) Breathe out.... slowly & deliberately
5) squeeze trigger and follow through
6) go forward to grab more ammo and reload
7) Keep hiding under the stairs and the green/black combatants keep coming down the stairs, INFINITELY.
8) Keep shooting one at a time until 30min trg session runs out or you gotta go and pee! :D

Sounds goofy, but this is what I use to train for the snaps and rapids, matches 1-12. :D

Then I practice my own mag changes (on the carpet) lots , lots, and more lots. Then I switch things up to transition drills and dry fire (all in the basement). Yup, I actually use my plate carrier, just waiting for the call from JTF3. :D Just joking! ha ha ha Damn, that MICH helmet is heavy while changing positions and then peeling off around my son's DH Mountain bike in the basement. Yeeeha!

Mag drills(change,stoppage,etc)

on range days I have my GF load my mags with the odd snap cap in it(works for pistol too)

I also work on transition drills.Tac reloads and always toping of pistol before the re- holster

I do dry fire practice twice a week when time permits. All you need is a rifle and handgun (with a propper holster and magazine carrier) reduced size targets (i drew my own haha), some dummy rounds and a barricade/corner.

I like to practice with rifle/pistol:

Basics
-Up Drills
-Turn Drills (static and moving)
-Assuming standard and non standard shooting positions
-corners/barricades
-Non dominant side shooting (I shoot rifle strong hand non dominant when doing left handed corners vs dealing with the whole ambi thing in full kit)
-Walking

Malfunction drills (type 1,2,3 stoppages simulated with dummy rounds)
-Transition to pistol
-Immediate Action
-Remedial Action

Reloading
-Speed Reload
-Infantry Reload (reload with magazine retention)
-single handed reloading (with pistol)
