Rifle finish, does it matter?

I have aways wanted a stainless rifle but I am worried that the finish may spoke game that I am hunting. What do you fellas think?

gloss scopes, high gloss stock finish, shiny stainless steel, or blued for that matter, all will reflect sunlight at the right angle. I prefer matte finish scopes, a painted fiberglass stock, and bead blasted steel for a hunting rifle

Ruger stainless rifles are quite shiny

I find the shiny finish actually attracts the game::p

I always found it ammusing when a guy would complain about a glossy finish on a rifle but would buy a 50mm scope. Try this: UNLOAD your rifle, than look at it from the muzzle. Not much shine on the front, is there? But take a 50mm glass lens, that will reflect light. Your pointing the muzzle at your game, not waving your buttstock around, trying to signal a rescue team. Take whatever finish you like, the deer doesn't care.

I was asking myself the same question about the Marlin guide gun. I prefer the look of the stainless version, but the mirror finish stainless steel spooked me. Looks like a hunter bait to me.

I'll probably go with the true and tested blue model.

I wonder how they ever bagged game before matte finish and fiberglass showed up.

I have matte stuff and some of "The Shining" stuff and personally I haven't seen much diff for deer hunting anyways. In fact I've shot more deer with "The Shining".

X2...Also a powdercoat on that shiney stainless works well.

A sniper screen lens cap will solve the reflection issue, but I doubt it is really an issue with deer anyway.

It will solve it, but I'm convinced it will filter too much light, and take away some low light utility. Plus, how many guys use one? I've never seen one on a rifle at a range or in the field. The comment about scent is probably the most accurate comment yet. And as far as the comment about snow reflecting light, I personally feel that a stainless/grey laminate blends in better with snow than anything else. And to throw one more curve ball, it doesn't matter how quiet you think you are, your still loud enough to wake the dead in the bush. I think people just look for any excuse to blame a fouled oppertunity. "The deer saw my rifles reflective finish, and ran off before I got a shot!" Yeah right. How about "The deer heard me fart as I cleared the top of the hill, and watched me light my cigarette up there, and listened as I hacked up a lung. Then when I saw it, it damned near died of a heartattack laughing at me as it bounded over the next hill"
