Rifle for Service Rifle

Ok thanks guys, now what about a optic? I'm thinking a Nightforce 1-4? Would that work good or again are there better options for the money?

I'm trying not to have a space gun but maybe I'm already going down the path?

Thanks again guys.

While a 1-4 will work fine, personal I like a little more magnification for the 400 and 500m points. The 2.5-10 would be great or I ran the 4-16x44 last year.

Like you said, you are going down the Space Gun path. I would suggesting getting something in 2-10 range for magnification. Not needed by why not. Hard to argue NF quality.

Cool, I have a NF 2.5-10x32 on my XCR that I could steal to try out. I was worried about FOV but if you guys are running 4-16's it must not be too much of a problem.

Thanks for the tips guys.

The NF would be fine.
Started with a FM 1 1/2-5; thought it was a nice scope 'til it calved at NSCC. Went to a Leupold 1 1/2-5 with target knobs added. Nice scope. Now have a Leupold Mk. IV 2 1/2-8. Very nice scope.

The NF 2.5x10 NXS is perfectly suited for SR. So much so in fact, I can't think of a better optic out there that would be a better choice.
The only questions would be:
A) Are you allowed to use within a club setting? (some restrict to 4 power),
B) Are you competing in DCRA SR conditions or something else? (I'm not aware of anyone in Alberta shooting DCRA conditions thanks to the APRA's dissolving SR from the PRA program)

To be honest I don't know. I'm wanting to travel to the PR matches on the west coast and noticed that some of them have service rifle matches paired up with them so it seems like a great way to make the most of a trip. I'm not sure if they operate under the DCRA or nor?

The last match I attended in BC was the 2008 provincial championship which used (or at least was very close to) the DCRA format. I haven't stayed up on that format or if they are still emulating it or not - BC members will chime in here no doubt. The matches In Chilliwack were some of the very best I have attended, so definitely worth the trip out.

It is a shame Alberta cannot host SR matches.

Are you sticking with the 4-16 Or going back to 2.5-10 Ryan?

Well the 4-16 won me the national championship last summer so I figure why change it if it ain't broke? If you have a variable scope the only thing you need to make sure is that the low end is low enough. 4x max. 3 might even be better. The year before I shot with a 6.5-20 mk4 and it caused me some misses at close range trying to find the target and the number at the same time. 10x worse for the fibua match.

2.5-17.5 sound workable?

Finally, got my AR put together and sending lead at target. Hopefully, get a chance to come out and have some fun with you guys this year.

Jerry

Scope looks a twitch on the heavy side(old guy perspective) but has a nice magnification range. Hope you can come down to the coast to play this year. It will be fun as always.
