Rifle for Service Rifle

Why would you have to pull out the Geissele trigger?

Mystic has sent me one of the new Sightron 2.5-17.5x tactical scopes which I will be playing with this weekend on the cylon. Should be a fun one to test out. The glass is excellent and the adjustments are pretty tactile and positive. The scope is bigger than I'm used to and a touch heavier, but otherwise looks good. I'll write up a review once I'm done.

My GA is set at 6lbs but I bought the national match knowing 5.5 was the minimum.
The OS4 is in my opinion at least a generation ahead of the C79A2/OS3.4 sights. Smaller, lower, lighter, .5moa adjustments, almost double the eye relief, better glass and more functional reticle for pretty much the same price point as the C79.

Hey I'm a big fan of service rifle shooting.

Here is my two cents.

1) Go with something that is reliable to shoot. I shot a H&K SL8 a few years.... meh... optics were too high from barrel center. Now, I usually shoot my Springfield M1A Supermatch (expensive but turns a wind into a breeze). I have shot AR's and I really like the AR's with the .50 beowulf mags which gives you a 10 round mag when shooting the 10 in 30 seconds which is nice, a NM M1A would rock. Plus you can always go back to iron sights (get match ones) if you have an optic failure. I know lots of guys shoot AR10's in BC at some of the windy ranges.

2) Optics, don't go too little and don't go too big. I had the M4 LRT Illum 4.5 - 25 (or something like that) it was tooooooo much. I have 23/20 vision in both eyes and the 300m prone with 4 power sights is just a bit weak especially when you are looking for the spot on the bad guys chin. I found a 2.5 - 8x Leupold optic perfect. I had a ACOG TA01NSN before the state department got silly and it was clear but still a little bit zoomed out. here is what I use now Mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x40mm (30mm) M1 Front Focal

3) Ok and the final thing is practice practice practice, all the gear means #### if you can't shoot. I've seen guys show up with everything all spaced up and "tacticool" prancing around like they have already won.... its the guy who put the time in that wins... and a bit of luck never hurts. The guys who win never score highest on everything, they score consistently well on everything (i.e. no big swings on the different positions).

For medium to long range, a #4 Lee Enfield tuned up, will win ORA, Historical Arms Society etc. Like the book says. " Have confidence in you and your rifle. "
