rifle help ?>>

I wouldn't wish the 4x4 on my enemies. I've seen Savage bolt 308's go for $650 shipped with a scope. There was a Remington 700 LS last week with scope that went for $800. And if you want a new one the Stevens 200's are really accurate for the money.

Personally I'd avoid the Norinco if you want a scoped, highly accurate rifle. Its a great fun gun, but you will need to spend $250-$300 for a decent scope mount, then at least that for a scope, and still wind up with a gun that shoots factory ammo into around 1.5" at 100 yards. With a good bolt action rifle the scope mounts and rings will cost you $100 and it will shoot much more accurately and consistantly than the Norinco M14.

As said above, Stevens and Savage will get you into a good shooting rifle (only) for around $400, and then you can shop for a scope. Upgrades of barrels, stocks triggers are all readily available for the Savage and Stevens if you want to take accuracy to a higher level.

I held on of those 3 weeks ago - had the same intention as you. "Find a sub $1K to punch paper with at the range" - Do not purchase the Nighttrain - beyond the looks, you will not be happy at how it fires.

ALthough its not the "greatest" - I bought a Tikka T3 Varmint .22-250 - bull barrel, black and stainless. - your scope will either match or better the price of the rifle. I had to wait a bit longer, but it was well worth it.

holy hell i didint realize a scope mount would be that much lol i was thinking like $12 lol .. i am going to check out the stevens 200 they come in a 223 which is nice right now $9 for a box of 20 . but will u still feel a kick like a 308 lol .. i am listening to you guys and taking ur suggestions .. I WILL NOT buy the nighttrain now..

They make $35 aluminum scope mounts for M14's, but they probably aren't worth the postage you'd pay to have it shipped, because if it doesn't hold zero, its simply a waste of ammunition. The rifle has always been a challenge to scope from looking at all the designs that have been used over the years. Bolt action rifles are gentler on the scope itself as well.

Your choice of 223 is wise. You will have an accurate centrefire rifle you can shoot relatively inexpensively. I have a Ruger bolt action 223 and its a great gun. I'm sure the Stevens would shoot just as well or better for half the price.
