I don't know if this is the appropriate forum because the weapon in question isn't blackpowder...but I'm sure some generous and good-hearted cat will put this where it belongs, if need be.
I found this piece, shockingly, in an attic. It's rusted pretty badly, but with some...a lot...of work, I think I can make it servicable. I'm *pretty sure* it's been sporterized all to hell, but I spose it could be a cavalry carbine or something. It has no calibre markings, but a *lot* of serial numbers. There are two dates stamped on the rear of the reciever, 1876 in a largish, bold font and 1877 above that in a smaller font. Near the front of the reciever are the initials "R.F.S" with a crown stamped over each letter. On the *other* side of the reciever is "R (possibly K) Mod.71." The strangest marking I found was "ESTERR.WAFFFB.GES", stamped on the barrel just below the rear sight. There are other little crowns (identical to the ones over R.F.S, except smaller) stamped on the bolt and barrel, along with a bunch of serial numbers, like I said. The rifle itself is a single shot, bolt action something something. It's got a big fat hole at the end of the barrel, makes me think .450
And that's all I got. Can anyone out there help me?
