rifle matches AR vs. VZ58

All things being equal (the shooter and general set up of the gun) the AR is going to generally ass-stomp a VZ from 50m+ distance. Anything inside that is a wash.

An AR can ass-stomp a vz due to its ergonomics at any range, however I can get a hit on an IPSC target out 300 Meters with a VZ. I agree that one can push a 223 farther, faster, and straighter, as I use one to compete in F-Class out to 900 meters.

Well hang on a minute there....

Sure a guy with 5 rounds mags can't out shoot the ARist, but... a decent match will divide shooters into divisions were at least equipment wise shooters are on an ever(er) playing field.

For the Team Hoser multigun shoots w're coming up with divisions such as
"Tactical 30" This div. requires .30cal. rifles so really in Canada... by default everyone will in it will be stuck with a 5 round mag.
I can't think of a semiauto .30 that can have mags over 5 rounds...
Yeah...yeah...yeah... "What about the Garand with it's 8 round enblock?"

Well... suffice it to say... I've NEVER seen anyone come out to a shoot with a Garand. If someone does... Oh well, deal with it.

the mags for the aia enfield copies are 10 round and fit the m14, theres your 30 cal 10 round gun.

I should have clarified, the comparison I was referring to would be scoring ring and target type dependent. If we are talking about a general hit anywhere on a 'classic', then yeah, I'd agree the 'it's a wash' comment could be extended in range. If A zone hits are of significant importance, that range could run out to 100m or so.

I think running 5 rounders in both (or in games/courses of fire that force a change at 5 or fewer rounds) the ergonomics of the AR is pretty much a wash -again, assuming the same shooter has the same aptitude on both systems.

I just bought a VZ58 in 223. I put the adaptor kit on it and it now takes AR mags, a long with the lar mags. I haven't used it in a match yet but it's a sweet shooting rifle. With the mag adaptor installed it works just like an AR in dropping mags.I also have a AR and like it too. Both are fine rifles , but if you are looking for something a little different the VZ is the answer.......
