Seeing that segment in Shooter really got me interested, and I'm looking at maybe slapping some camo paint on my rig (don't worry, I'll shoot it a bit first ;)). Does the spraypainting method shown in Shooter work well? Also: Skullboy, what kind of patterns do you do (if you still do them?)? I'm not sure as to whether to go for the "home-made" kind of thing, or to go for that Gucci kind of stuff that IBA does.

Here's a pic of my buddies custom built .338 Lapua AI he just had painted. What do you think? I may have to get my Dakota done!!

Jamie: Krylon's the spraypaint right? That's what I was thinking about, I'm just not sure as to what pattern to try and adapt.

LRC: To tell you the truth, I'm not a huge fan of desert camo and I like the camo to be a bit more detailed (maybe have some shrubbery kind of patterns in there), but that's a nice looking rifle!

Gunboy: Oooh M40! I think I might want a more "custom" looking camo like that; kinda like Longshot's rifle.

Believe it or not, the 3color combination Would look very good in anytype of stock, I did one for my causin last year, hs stock for his rem700p, Lightgreen, darkgreen, brown...as long as you don't go over board with any one of the color, there is no special patern needed, all I used was rips up paper and taped it to the stock, there would be minimum in cost, but used the barbarcue type pain...

Okay I am a lefty LRC, and if you remember correctly you pointed me in the right direction on my rem 700 vsf 308 win LH a while ago along with reloading supplied which I followed. That rifle is seriously my wet dream!

edit: and my rifle is "painted" technicaly the action barrel bolt blah blah blah is KG Kote'd

Well I like the scope!

I can't imagine taking a spray bomb to a 5000K gun! Maybe the stock but not the metal.

hay Airborn69, that actually look good, it not your it is?, I am think about painting my gun also, DarkGreen, LightGreen, Brown, keep is simple...

I am sure the Barbercue pain are better than the Krylon...

Not Really.

I have never had any problems with Krylon.

For barrels, I used VHT 1500 degree exhaust paint as an under coat. That stuff ROCKS!!!!:D

Tremclad makes a textured spray paint in flat black and Khaki/Sand.

Rohann, I cut my own templates for woodlands and Digital camo. However most of the woodlands I would freehand with an airbrush.

IF you want to see pics of different camo/color combinations, just let me know................;)

Thanks for all the replies!
Airborne: Exactly that; I really like that pattern. That other one is HWMNBN's rifle, isn't it? I'm not a fan of the digital camo, even though it works the most effectively.

Luckorwhat: Thanks for the links! I'll have a look at 'em.

Skullboy: I'd definately appreciate some pictures!

I'm just curious about something: say you spray it with Krylon, and a few months later (or whatever) the paint has chipped a bit and become a bit worn. Is there an easy way to get the paint off without doing any damage to rifle or scope? Can you just paint overtop?
