Rifle practice with large calibers and expensive ammo.

I hear when your sac fully developes the muzzle brake butt hurt subsides

Yah, the difference is amazing. You can take any old rifle and make the guys on either side of you think you are a d-bag.

Brakes have their place, but it's on 50bmg and 338 lapua, not a 7mag hunting rifle... i was ready to slap my buddy for putting a brake on his sks because they really suck for the people around the shooter...

^I hear when they drop you are capable of handling recoil...

Buy cheap bullets on the e.e from guys who can't handle the recoil of the big gun they bought or are changing loads.

Yeah, fun costs money. One thing that always strikes me as funny is how most rifle shooters, even those that consider themselves enthusiasts don't really shoot that much. Shotgunners, handgunners, even the SKS crowd think of 100O rounds as nothing and they shoot them like kid with a pellet gun. Rifle guys would rather talk about their guns than burn up one of their precious cartridges. Of course, there are exceptions but they tend to be rare.

Talk ...... and post pics on CGN of them :)

A rimfire doesn't do it for me.
I try to find some decent 223 and 308 factory rounds that have reloadable brass.
The fiocchi vmax 223 and the 308 hertinberger fmj are accurate lower cost plinkers

I talk about mine, I shoot mine a lot when health permits, and I do my best to try posting pictures of them.
But if that bothers some, I can and will stop posting pictures.
I use and enjoy mine, life's too short not to...

Keep posting photos of them Kevan. I like a lot of what you've shown and appreciate seeing them and hearing about them.:).

Shooting steel put the fun back in shooting hunting rifles and long range rifles for me. We seldom shoot closer than 300 and if so its usually offhand. There's a lot of advantages over paper, not the least of which are instant feedback and instant gratification. Sort of like busting clays.

The popularity of steel targets is another one of those "great" things to happen for shooters. Once the load is worked up, the rifle zeroed and the trajectory verified, shooting at paper just doesn't have the same appeal that the instant feedback of steel targets do. I've found that various sizes at various distances can be lots of fun.

And it doesn't matter what you are shooting- hunting rifle, black rifle, precison rig or an SKS.....It's ALL super fun.

:)

And if you guys think its expensive to shoot down south, the cost of components when you live in a community without road access, it borders on crippling. I'm not complaining for myself, since we have rail access, and get out frequently enough to stock up, but guys that live in places like Rankin, or worse Resolute, or Grise Fiord are at a serious disadvantage.

I wouldn't have bought my Savage in 338 Lapua if I didn't handload. Too few shooters even consider handloading, but prefer to remain slaves to the ammo manufacturers.

we are only slaves of brass, powders and bullet makers lol .... when there is shortage we are impacted too ...

I rather go to a 100m range with my 308 cause I can shoot steel at it vs the 300y one which I can only shoot paper or a 4 moa gong which is too big. I like my 6" rifle spinner off hand at 100, would be fun shooting it at 300 but nooo the fuds won't have it.

Have people mentioned to you that it bothers them when you post pics and talk about your rifles? If not, then it's unlikely anyone is upset about gun talk and pics on a gun forum.

Were you not ridiculing it in post #23 ?
Suggesting that some talk about and post picture of their firearms rather that using them..... or am I wrong ??

It's funny, I always thought reloading would save me some money too. What's actually happening is I spend the same amount of money but get more bang for my buck. I actually think I spent more reloading that not, simply for the fact that I end up shooting more because it's cheaper. So if you're going to shoot lots, by all means reload. But don't think you're going to save money. Reloading, recreational shooting for that matter, can a very deep rabbit hole. I won't be taking any money to the grave that's for sure.

There is no bigger lie on the ahooting game than reloading saves money. Sure it does per round, but it leads to more rifles, more components and more trigger pulls.

I shoot mostly for hunting and sighting in, every now and then just for the fun of it. This statement is why I have not started to reload. I can buy a lot of factory ammo for the initial cost of reloading equipment.

Right now I am experimenting with various calibers to probably eventually narrow my selection down to 1 or 2.

Dogleg mentioned those that mostly talk about their rifles and I mentioned mostly posting pics on CGN.

If you think either comment was pointedly directed at you, or that we are actually "bothered" by talk and pics of guns, I think you might be reading a little too much into the commentary.
