Anyone looking for a rifle should buy NOW. I just spent the day calling around trying to find a Rem 700 SPS Varmint 308. I had planned on buying from Cabela's ($569 less $40 rebate) not bad. They sold out this weekend. The guy says when they come in they will be $709!!! $140 more JFC!

So I called Whole Sale Sports in Calgary 8 or 9 times. No answer in the firearms dept. The next time I call the woman says "I don't know why they're not answering it's dead in here today"... nice. I ended up buying from somewhere else due to the 8 calls I made.
Anyway, they still have 7 at $579 if you are near their stores and can walk in.

I don't know if I am allowed to drop names like this but I thought some people would appreciate the tip. Another company I called in Montreal is putting their prices up 10% tomorrow.

I work in a gun store here in BC and was told by one of our main firearms suppliers that all future stock would be going up in price (our cost) by 25%:mad::mad:

I bought a Sendero at Cabella's for $1120. A couple weeks ago I was checking their site, and the price is now $1392. Searching further I found a 700 SPS Stainless in 243 at $580, so I bought. I called to check the status and was told they are sold out but will honour the price it was ordered at. I have found them most reasonable to deal with.

The SPS Varmint 308 has not been listed on their website. Pretty much every other calibre Varmint is at below $600 prices. So I couldn't call them on "the listed price". But I have been putting off the purchase hoping to find one on the EE at a better price so I am to blame for not jumping on the Cabela's deal.
But Whole sale, well that's another story. I don't see them here? as a sponsor but they were terrible to deal with. I got to the point where I called the manager and said I have money and want to buy a gun today but no one at your store wants my money.
But as luck would have it I found a better deal so it was a happy ending.
Now if I could just find a cheap bipod.

I recently bought my 22-250 for exactly that reason. Some of the local gunshop websites even posted memos about the price increases which are coming down the pipe.

In the case of my Tikka, I heard the price would be going up around $100 at least. There are some dealers on CGN which still have stock at the old prices, which I have bought from and been very satisfied.

PM me if you want his name.

No, but thanks anyway.

I found a great 700 and I was happy with the price. Now I just have to find time to learn the art.

Any thoughts on why gun makers are increasing prices by 25%? At a time when the world's economy is in the toilet, price of all precious metals and oil are down. It just doesn't make sense to raise prices on guns.

X2,

I'm thinking (hoping) this price increase will be short lived. Much of the population is broke and many can't or won't be buying guns expecialy at inflated prices, and the Manufactures will need to be competative just to keep in business.
Just like gas, the price kept going up as long as we were buying it, then when the economy hit the toilet and demand went down so did the price. Proof that the only reason price went up was because we were willing to pay.

Our dollar is worth 25% less ........just to bad when it was equal or more than the U.S dollar the price never rflected that. Maybe 25% is the magic number that trips this price increase....I DUNNO...............probably wishful thinking that if the dollar comes back the prices will go down.

Thoughts of a pessimistic / tin foil hatter...

In what way is it bad for a gun shop to publicize a price increase well beforehand, then actually increase the price for awhile, and then lower it back down again?

in light of this, I've been looking for a remington 700 sps tactical in 308 but I can't seem to find them on cabelas or wss' website. Anyone know where I can get these before the prices go up?

Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 Win Mfr # 84207 $739.95

This from Frontier Firearms website. They are a CGN sponsor... top of the page where the ads are.

There is also a mail in $40 rebate.

Man, prices for everthing coming in from the US is going up... A few threads down when ATR brought up his new NightForce scopes, it turned out that the prices for the non-FFP versions went up about 200$ (which it pretty tame compared to the 25% increases I've read in this thread).

By what you want now, or pay more for it later. Get used to this.

Well I told myself I wasn't going the get excited about these price increases and wait it out, I don't really need another gun now anyway (I still think south of us is still going to take more of a dump).
But yesterday I called Sir/Cabelas and order a SPS Varmint in .308. She said that they were out of stock/backordered and the new ones coming in would be just over $700 but since I was looking at the Winter/Holiday catalogue they would honour the $569 price. She didn't know when the new ones would be coming in but they had just recieved a large order of Remington that morning so it could be in there. Fingers crossed.:)

Sorry for mentioning the name of a non sponsoring dealer, I have and will buy from the sponsors when I can but the ones I checked out already have raised their prices. Just like they need to make a profit to keep afloat I need to spend smartly to do the same.

Its not just rifles.. i was at Le Baron today and pretty much everything I looked at (scope, rings, bases, reloading components and factory made ammo) went up in price.. Kinda sucks!!
