I was thinking of maybe getting into a muzzle loader in the Spring for hunting with in the Fall. I want something easy to clean and would be mounting a scope on it. I don't know anything about them but would guess one of the 'inline' ones is what I'm after. I know I don't want the flint lock style. Can you get a pretty decent rifle for around $300.00-400.00 before the scope etc.? I would probably want to use the discs or whatever they are called instead of the granular powder. As usual, thanks in advance.

Black powder in-line rifle by one of the better manufacturers seems to be what you need. In Canada, yes, the price will be in the $300.00 to $400.00 range.....why?, I don't know! I live close to the border with New York State. Black powder firearms are exempt from the "export" USA regulations. I bought a CVA "Kodiak" rifle for $129.00. All you have to do is buy it and get all the info you need to register it here in Canada. Put it on layaway and call CFC. When your registration certificate is received go pick it up. On your return with the rifle all you will need on the Canadian side is the reg. cert. and your PAL and you're away. Maybe our prices will come down sometime but for now they have not. Dave
if you want it easy to clean, try american pioneer powder company's line of black powder replacements.i don't know that they're easier to clean, but the powder is far less corrosive because there is no sulphur in it. part of the reason things will ALWAYS cost more in canada ,is simply the cost of doing business here is hugely higher than in the u.s. to import anything we have brokerage fee, G.S.T. at the border, shipping and handling fees,duty, even on some things that were supposed to be duty free buy now amonst other things like higher taxation. you can thank our governments for this.
I know that our standard of living is somewhat higher and that wages are also marginally higher here. Manufacturers were charging "what the market would bear". Some of the price differences in goods don't fairly reflect the small differences in the cost of operating in Canada in my opinion. Having said that....I have to say that some prices are suddenly reflecting more fairly these differences ....consumer pressure at work. Still $129.00 compared to $359.00 for an identical item is a bit of a stretch! Good luck with your search for a M/L.
