Have a new 280AI build arriving soon.

Just wondering what you fellows are recommending for solid base(s) / rings for scope mounts?

I've been using Talleys but have been reading about issues with them cracking on occasion. Looking at other options now.

Cracking issues are only with the alloy one piece ultra-light mounts.

Use the regular all-steel Talley rings and all-steel Talley bases.

Ive used Talley LW on almost all my rifles since 2004. Have mounted thousands of them too, seen 2 crack and both from the same guy who lapped them very aggressively

Tallys are nice, as they are steel and they eliminate the need for separate bases in many cases, but I have also used the least expensive Leupold Rifleman rings on hunting rigs. There may be a certain level of scope ring snobbery out there? :p

I use the Remington Zamak Talley rip offs on most guns that take 700 bases, can get them for $25 on sale, never let me down.

EAW / Recknagel are the best hunting mounts in the world. But you'll pay about 3X the cost of competitive mounts like Talley that are entirely adequate.

NO - they are aluminum one piece with base ! - ALL the steel Talleys need bases !

My current hunting rig has nikon steel bases and weaver grand slam steel rings. The Grand slams have a square cross bolt to sit in the slot on the base which I like. I ended up with nikon bases because they were the cheapest steel bases my LGS had, the rest were like $80+.
