Rifle scopes/ shotgun scopes whats the difference?

I am not sure on exact difference BUT had a friend slap rifle scope on a remington 870 with rifled barrel shooting 3" copper solids. Could not get that thing to sight in. Was all over the place. I thought the gun just did not like those slugs but after trying hornady and wins we still had the same issue. An old guy at the range told us to try shotgun scope and after we swapped it was grouping just beautifully.

I have 870 with rifled barrel shooting 3" accutip topped with Leupold ultimate slam. Grouping is just great. i can do 1.5" at 100 yards.

Ultimate slam is great. After seeing mine few friends got them on their guns as well.

Again i am not sure if there are any difference but any slug gun in my future will get ultimate slam.

Most shotgun scopes have...
1. parallax set at 50 or 75 yards
2. longer eye relief 5" or so
3. smaller objective lenses, allowing
closer/lower mounting to receiver
4. larger reticules
5. lower power, 2x or 1.5-5x20 etc.
6. shorter length 6.5" to 9" or so
7. They are designed for faster target acquisition.

Does it have anything to do with the internals and their resistance to force when the gun is discharged? Ie, are shotgun scopes 'beefier' in any way?
