Rifle season is upon us! What are you heading out with?

I've been carrying this 7RSAUM Model 7 with a 4-12 VX2 shooting 140TTSX

That's a nice wolf!

Since I hunt whitetails on farmland, the shots can vary a lot. It is entirely possible to have a 400 yard poke.
For that reason, I will be packing my Weatherby Vanguard II in 257 Weatherby Mag. Probably shoot the 110
Accubond, but the 115 Partition shoots virtually identically, so it could be the choice as well.

On top is a VX IIIi 3.5-10 x 40 B&C. This combination shoots consistently around 5/8 moa right out to 500 yards.\
Can fill 3 tags this fall, so excited to get out there. Dave.

If I do buy a licence I will be taking my 1871-75 Rem Milt. Rolling Block that I re-barreled to 45-70 and mounted a 32" brass scope(Tasco Repro.) on it...or I might take an original 1886 (circa.1887)...or a Miroku 1886 in 45-90. All 3 will shoot home-cast 400gr slugs into 2" or so at a hundred and I don't plan on shooting further than that anymore.

Only big game I'm hunting this autumn are the mule and whitetail bucks. One rifle is enough, however will keep another for a back-up.

1) Custom Winchester 70 CRF chambered for the 240 Weatherby Mag. Has a 27" Jury barrel and topped off with a Swarovski Z3 3x12x50.
Loaded with 90 gr. Nosler Accubond. Great cartridge for the Great Plains mule buck and forest fringe whitetail.
2) Blaser R8 Jaeger, chambered for the 7mm Rem. Mag. Topped off with a Meopta Meostar 3x12x56 illuminated dot reticle. Loaded with 140 gr. Nosler Accubond.
Trigger will not be pulled if mule buck does not score 180+ B&C and the whitetail buck 160+ B&C.

The usual for deer, my 43 No.4 longbranch sporter, and new this year for small game my 870 express with 20” barrel and rifle sights with a mod choke. Both have been great this year, 2 whitetail on the ground and a ton of grouse have come home with me.

I've been out a few times since season opening and haven't bothered to poke a deer as it's not cold enough yet to keep the meat chilly in my garage. Last week of season is when I take normally deer. Got some perfect spots picked out though, and bonked a few grouse, quail, rabbits & grey squirrels along the way. My 870 accounted for most of of them as well as my CZ 452 Scout.

A few tree rats met the Great Mother a short while back due to me Husqvarna 46a in 9.3x57 which be me large game rifle of choice fer the last couple seasons.
